Great Experiences Ahead at Little Kingdom

When was the last time you visited Maju Junction or Jalan Sultan Ismail? If it was more than 3 months ago, now’s the perfect time to walk along this busy, lively street in Kuala Lumpur. Coming from Cheras, my son and I decided to take a train ride instead of driving down. Aside from it’s much faster than driving to town, my son enjoys train rides. Ah, convenience, speed and my son’s joy, a train ride to Maju Junction is perfect. Did I mention that the trip only costed RM5.20 two-way?

The trip from Cheras to Sultan Ismail station was fast, roughly 15 minutes on a Saturday morning. From the station, there’s a walkway leading directly to the entrance of Parkson Maju Junction. Very convenient. The guard is friendly and showed me the way to go up to Level 3, where an amazing experience awaits me and my little naughty boy at Little Kingdom.

A magical-themed play land boasting of 40,000 sq.ft., Parkson Edutainment’s Little Kingdom is a first-of-its-kind personalised learning edutainment park. It’s a place where kids and parents experience various realities, from fairy tales to space missions. This play land features technology games, Amazon rides, magical shows, learning workshops and beautiful classrooms that children will enjoy. 

Upon entering this kingdom, you’ll immediately feel the “magic”. Here’s my naughty boy wanting to eat that giant red mushroom. 

Visitors are welcomed by cobblestone streets, miniature shops with bright signages, colourful walls and dramatic lighting.

There are giant, adorable fairy tale books on the streets, stories like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Aladdin and the Little Racing Car. No, these are not for reading but for making the place even more magical and, I guess, for hugging! 

Little Kingdom has a magical stage where performances are held everyday. We caught a magic show performance, which kids truly enjoyed.

6. Personalised Learning Options. You can choose for your child to learn more activities such as piano, vocal, guitar, culinary arts, languages, speech, drama, ballet, martial arts or even yoga.

My son’s favourite was Fantasy Driving, he’s just addicted to cars, trucks, trains or anything that runs on wheels. A great thing about this activity is that parents can join their kids in the car. 8. Its Magical Castle is also an awesome venue for events, parties and special occasions. This hall is just like a palace ballroom where kings, queens, princes and princesses host a ball. See this armed guard and his magnificently detailed shield?

Great time to see the Autobots and grab a chance to take home a toy set worth RM249!

Are you a Transformers fan? Which one is your favorite? And if you’re not, what about your child or kids? Wait a minute…who doesn’t like the Transformers? I’m an 80’s child and the Transformers was part of my childhood. Yep, I’m a gal and some might think that it’s only boys who’d like the Autobots and Deceptions and all the fights but who doesn’t like the concept of robots that can fight and protect you, play around, have some fun and, most of all, turn into cars or jets? I even had an Optimus Prime toy back then! And guess what, now that I have a son, it’s even more fun to play with Transformers toys. He loves Bumblebee, modern Camaro style. 

Now that school holidays are officially in, this is the great time for us to visit 1 Utama and relive the Transformers experience. The robot-aliens are making an appearance in 1 Utama, started 25th May and running until 5th June 2016 at the Centre Court of Old Wing. If in case you get confused like me on where is Old and New, Old Wing is the Isetan side, New Wing is the Parkson side. Hate driving or parking? I’d Uber or Grab it.

These include the Fastest Fingers Challenge in which children 8-12 years old can participate with a minimum purchase of RM120 in two receipts. The challenge will require them to assemble a complete Transformers combiner figure in the fastest time possible. The winner of each session of the challenge, which takes place over the weekends during the roadshow period, will take home a Generations Combiner Leader figure worth RM249.90.

Is it worth spending a bit more on a hair serum?

I used to have a simple “wash and go” routine with my hair. That was until last year but then I realised that my hair is often exposed to harsh environmental elements like sunlight, dust, smoke, haze, dirt and more. Hair fall has become a concern and it came to my attention that I haven’t been taking good care of my hair after washing. 

I used to shampoo my hair daily, I just can’t stand the feeling of sticky mane and the thought that it’s been outside. How to sleep and place my head on the pillow if my hair is dirty? Oh, man, I have to wash daily. The head of my digital marketing team, Rowena, who has this glorious hair, tells me that I shouldn’t. And, yeah, the internet says that, too. So I’ve started to alternate shampooing, every other day. But regular washing does dry my hair. During my visit to the salon a few months back, my stylist recommended that I use a serum: Kerastase Elixir Ultime. The first time she applied it on my hair, I felt the immediate difference. My hair was shinier, bouncy, smooth, less frizzy.

This elixir comes in a transparent, plastic bottle with pump. I like transparent containers because I can easily see how much is left. The serum itself is a golden yellow color with oil texture. But don’t worry; the oil texture leaves a great, non-sticky feeling on the hair. The scent is beautiful, reminds me of coconut oil but added with mild fragrance.

Price is a bit higher than pharmacy products, even other L’Oreal Paris hair serums. But I don’t mind paying a bit more. The Kerastase Elixir Ultime works great on my hair, can be applied in various ways and I love the smell. The bottle comes in 125ml, which can last for more than 6 months, even with my hair length and daily use. I love this serum!

These cleansers are amazing. My favorite was the Moisturising Manuka Honey Cleansing Gel. I love honey and this cleansing gel looks exactly like honey. The color and viscosity of the gel itself looks edible, tempting to taste! The scent has a mild, sweet honey aroma and leaves a lovely sensation on the face after use. My skin feels clean, smooth yet moisturised after washing. 

If your skin is acne-prone due to excess oil, you can try the Sebum-Control Amazon Clay Foam Cleanser. If you’re like me who has big pores, you can use the Deep-Cleansing Bamboo Charcoal. I alternate this with my Manuka Honey Cleanser. 

After cleansing, it is very important that we moisturise our face and body. The Lip Hop AQUA JELLY range includes 8-in-1 multi-purpose products with 4 variants:

I even use it on my son’s hair in the morning before school to control his “bedhead hair” as alternative to normal gel or hair oil. Oil can get sticky during the day.

I love spray products because these save time and I’m enjoying the Sun Spray SPF50, which comes in a canister of my favorite color, purple. Just spray it lightly over my arms and legs, and I’m ready! It can also be used on the face but not directly sprayed; spray onto the palm first then apply on the face. 

And thank goodness for having a Kids’ variant, too. I’m pleased that Lip Hop recognises the need for children to be “sun-proofed” as well, not just grown-ups. My son loves playing outside and I’m very cautious about his protection against the sun (and mosquitoes, arghhh, those pesky, little things). The Lip Hop Kids Sun Protection Lotion:

An activity like this definitely needs sun protection and I’m not one who’d simply allow my child to be exposed to sunlight and UV rays without shield. Smarter and Happier Kids with BrainFit Studio Programs

Geniuses are not born…they are made.

I strongly believe that all children have the potential to achieve a lot of things and reach their dreams. And we, parents, must give them the support and encouragement to discover themselves and develop their skills. If there’s a slight chance that we can possibly increase their capabilities by 1 or 2 or 5 or 10%, wouldn’t we do whatever it takes? 

Since my son started going to school at the age of 3, I’ve started spending 30 minutes to 1 hour daily to do exercise books with him. It was hard at first, of course, children want to play and play whenever they can. But I know that once this habit is fixed and with interesting books and tools, he will begin to find learning as a fun thing to do. It took a lot of patience, time and hard work but now, it’s already a daily habit and I can leave him alone to accomplish his books while I do other things, like write this article and share an experience with you about brain fitness. 

I’ve never heard of the term “brain fitness” before. I came across this concept during my quest for children’s activities last year. According to scientific research, we can improve our brain at whatever age we may be, much like how we can improve physical fitness.

An interesting brand I found was BrainFit. I saw their centre previously at The Curve shopping mall and the name itself already made me curious.

BrainFit aims to help children, including babies as young as 3 months up to 18 years old, unleash their intelligence and achieve their true potential. They work with neuro-scientists from the Scientific Learning Corporation to develop programs that children will benefit from.

A tool called CognitiveMAP™, BrainFit®’s proprietary neuroscientific tool, measures the brain fitness level of an individual. It helps trainers to understand each child’s unique brain fitness profile and to objectively measure improvement in cognitive skills after brain fitness training.

CognitiveMAP™ evaluates a student’s cognitive skills in the 5 brain fitness systems of:

3) Sensory-Motor processing

These 5 systems are important because they form the foundation of “engine for learning”. What you do is to schedule an appointment for your child to go through the CognitiveMAP evaluation. From this, a certified trainer will determine the most suitable program for your child to take. 

Depending on the age of your child, BrainFit provides 3 key programs: BrainFit Baby (9 months to 3 years old), BrainFit Junior (3 to 6 years old) and BrainFit Scholar (6 to 18 years old). 

My son is 6 years old, turning 7 this year, and he was suitable to proceed with BrainFit Scholar program. All these are aimed at improving our children’s performance across various areas, from body and spatial awareness up to social skills. He started 2 weeks ago, 2 sessions of 60 minutes per week. 

On his first session, my son was introduced to exercises that he’d never done before. He was thrilled to learn and do what the trainer taught him to do. Doing the exercises with other kids is also great as he learns how to be more social and comfortable with the tasks. I was actually nervous if he can stay focused for a stretch of 60 minutes in a new classroom. Surprisingly, with other children and with a patient trainer, he did. 

The classrooms are clean, bright and organized.

Look, they have a room for “baby” training program!

By the entrance, there’s a shelf display of educational toys for sale. Don’t be fooled; these are no ordinary toys  as these assist to develop logical  thinking. Each toy combines learning with fun!

During his 2nd session, he went through similar exercises but a bit harder this time. He still enjoyed it and had fun with 2 other children in class. One of the fascinating exercises was this one where they had to write as skilfully as they can while the pen is vibrating continuously. Look at this!

This combines the physical world with the digital, allowing all of us to immerse ourselves not just in 1 platform but also across different channels or media. With LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS, we enjoy an app (Merlok 2.0) with a virtual school (the NEXO Academy website) with animated TV series (via Cartoon Network) with comics and with the LEGO building sets. All these platforms work together to give our kids the best multi-dimensional experience that we’ve never had before! Now, LEGO is truly not just a toy…it has gone above and beyond what a toy does!

The Merlok 2.0 app is a fun game to play. My son had downloaded the game right after testing it at the Battle Zone in MidValley. This app has a special ability to scan and download as many as 170 unique NEXO Knights powers, represented as knight shields, scattered across the kingdom of Knighton.  

So let’s get started with our training! It’s very easy to join the LEGO® NEXOKNIGHTS Academy.

Step 1: Create a User Account at https://nexoknightsapac.lego.com/en-my/nexo-knights-game

Step 2: Activate your or your child’s Lego ID from the Activation Email sent to your email address.

Step 3: Log-in to your account and download the app.

Step 4: Start with your training and accomplish Quests! Scan shields from print ads, cards and everywhere you see Nexo Knights shields, including the TV series! Drop by MidValley Center Court until 20^th March 2016 and discover a lot of scattered shields within the event area!

The Academy gives you access to a lot of information such as the Nexo Knights, products, videos, latest news, events and more. My son has started his training with the Nexo Knights Academy. It’s fun and easy! Just start with a quest and every successful step earns you a shield that you can immediately scan. This is also saved in the armory and can be scanned later. You can even edit your profile with different pieces of Lego figure! 

Of course, my son’s LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS multi-dimensional play won’t be complete without building the Lego set. He was thrilled to fix his first Nexo Knights toys: Ultimate Robin figure that comes with full armor and 2 pieces of chicken drumstick (haha!), and Beast Master’s Chaos Chariot that comes with Nexo Knight Macy. It’s cool that this new Lego line has added a female character in the team. Macy is the princess of the realm and dedicated to protect Knighton even when it’s tough for her to prove herself to her father, the king. See, I’ve been absorbed by the story already.

Power Up with Lego Nexo Knights at MidValley

Yay, Lego! Yes, that’s the voice in my head screaming in excitement. When I saw the Lego Nexo Knights display set-up at the Centre Court in MidValley, I just knew I have to bring my son as soon as the school holiday starts.

The Lego® Nexo Knights is the latest and newest product line from Lego Malaysia. My son first knew about this new LEGO® line through Cartoon Network and he loves it. He even records the shows from Astro and watches them after school or after doing his homework. Children and adults alike can easily be captivated by the story as this combines a futuristic, high-tech world with the classical theme of knighthood where there are heroic knights, a kingdom, princess, king, queen and, of course, an evil army to conquer.

Making this school holiday even more exciting for children, Lego® has brought the Nexo Knights experience to life at MidValley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur. As someone who resides in this beautiful country, I’m proud to say that Malaysia was the first to host the Lego Nexo Knights event in Southeast Asia!

This is the perfect time to bring the kids to MidValley and allow them to explore various activities by Lego Nexo Knights. From now until 20^th March 2016, every day is packed with a “training schedule” where our children can have a fun time undergoing the Knight training process. These activities are free for you and your kids to experience.

Just share a picture of your Lego Nexo Knights experience and add the hashtag #LEGONEXOKNIGHTS and you can redeem the print instantly at the Power Up Zone. At The Power Up Zone, kids can enjoy a life-size game where they will “power up to be a Nexo Knight” by physically holding a shield and a sword to engage and battle with enemies on a TV screen. Isn’t this cool? My son enjoyed this a lot and made him feel like a real knight in battle!

At the Battle Zone, this is at the Centre Court where all the Lego models are in display, Lego has several activities lined up for the little ones and even adults. There’s a showcase of tablets where everyone can play the Merlok 2.0, a free-to-download app available at the AppStore and GooglePlay, then battle as a Nexo Knight and fight the evil forces of Jestro. This cool app has an amazing feature where you can scan knight shields to use them as powers within the game. There are as many as 170 unique NEXO Knights powers that can be found in physical and digital forms, in building sets, print ads, books, comics and even from the TV series. (I will share more details and guide for this amazing app and the NEXO Academy in my next post, this is really exciting! I wanna play!)

At the Battle Zone, you’ll also have access to the Virtual Lego Nexo Knights Battle Tour where you get a close-up look into the fantastical world of Knighton, as an apprentice in training for the Lego Nexo Knights academy.

The Forge Zone allows kids to play mini-models and have fun learning to build Lego figures with simple steps. It’s fun to see children having a great time building something. I believe that this kind of activity fosters imaginative and creative skills among our children.

The Lego Nexo Knight mascot also appears in the afternoon, bringing much delight to everyone. Here are the happy children at the event together with Clay Morrington and the fun team of Lego!

Functional Laptop Bag at Flight 001

For the past 2 months, I’ve been looking for a functional laptop messenger bag but I didn’t want a traditional one, not the black conventional polyester type that comes free with a purchase of a laptop. I was looking for something out of the usual-looking ones, must have a pocket/sleeve for a MacBook, must have enough space for me to bring my makeup kit, wallet and other small items. Sadly, it is not that easy to find one. It’s quite surprising that with so many bag-makers around in this century, very few brands have been thinking about working women like me who need to combine a bit of style with technology and essential items inside 1 bag. I love the look and feel of this laptop bag. It’s definitely not the usual type of material, and it uses vegan material by the way. It has a detachable shoulder strap; you can hold it like a business case if preferred. It’s also sturdy and structured, which means you can place documents inside without getting them crumpled.

There’s a quick access back pocket for items like business cardholder and even your phone. I normally tuck my iPhone 6 here so I can easily take it out.

I personally think that getting healthy is one of the toughest challenges in life. It is the trophy, the goal and the strategy at the same time. I admit that I’m not a healthy person and I am not very cautious or watchful of what I eat. I rarely spend time to exercise or burn the extra calories that I take in.
