Fun Laser Tag Games at Laser Warzone

Foster teamwork and cooperation among kids with this indoor activity.

If you’re a fan of “How I Met Your Mother” TV series, you’ve most likely heard about laser tag several times from Barney Stinson. He’s obsessed with this sport and plays aggressively against kids in a laser tag arena. I’ve watched a few episodes (my husband loves this show but, parents, take note that this is not recommended for young kids due to some topics and content) and Barney would often mention laser tag. My fave quotes:

“I should be out playing laser tag, being awesome.”

“A few final thoughts, don’t get married until you’re thirty. Play laser tag once a week.”

I’m not surprised why Barney loves laser tag. I often see lots of kids and adults forming teams, lining up at Laser Warzone at e@Curve on weekends. It must be something fun and exciting. It’s amazing to see that there’s such a game enjoyed by both young ones and grown-ups. I learned that even corporate companies organize team-building activities with laser tag!

Laser tag is an easy game to play. If you’re familiar with paintball then laser tag is a technology-based version of that and without the pain. If you are more familiar with PC/video games that involve shooting then laser tag is an interactive version where you get to engage with your teammates and opponents on a personal level. You strategize and plan directly with other people or kids then go to battle together physically. It makes game play more fun!

Laser Warzone is a great place to play laser tag. It is well-known for friendly staff, weekend/holiday activity, birthday/corporate parties and has 3 arenas in various locations: e@Curve in Petaling Jaya, Wangsa Walk Mall in Kuala Lumpur and Gurney Plaza in Penang.

The branch in Petaling Jaya is conveniently located at the first floor of e@Curve, just right next to The Curve shopping mall, perfect location for the entire family to hang out, shop and have dinner afterwards. My son had 2 birthday parties at Laser Warzone and we plan to do it here again this year. It’s great for him and his friends to hang out and play while we, parents, either wait in the party room or better yet, go around shopping! It’s in a shopping mall after all! My husband is the one in-charge of looking after him during my son’s game sessions with friends.

The suit and laser gun make a really awesome gear pack. Kids love it! No wonder Barney Stinson says it’s awesome!

Each laser tag game can have up to 10 players divided into 2 teams or they can also choose to play solo, which means each player is battling against everyone. Most kids enjoy playing in teams because it involves planning and teamwork. They huddle and plan their strategy together, and it does involve more fun to engage in a battle as a gang!

This game is perfect for the entire family, well for kids around 6 years old and above, as long as they are big enough to wear the gear. Just look at this father with his daughters!

Laser tag is a great activity for kids and adults. Visit a Laser Warzone arena and try it out. After all, it’s always a good time to be awesome!

Witnessing your child’s happiness is priceless. The moment I stepped through the house door carrying this box of wonder and colour, he already got excited. He didn’t assume that it was his; he actually thought that it was mine. Haha! You can just imagine how happy and delighted he was when I told him that the toy was for him.

The 6 figures, like the bestselling TRANSFORMERS toys, are convertible from robot to vehicle and back. My son loves them in vehicle mode but he finds joy in the “transforming” function of these toys. Whether it’s a Deception or an Autobot, he just loves these vehicles!

The robots in this Menasor set are characters that we haven’t seen in the movies (yet) but I think they are a kickass bunch. My favorite in this pack is Brake-Neck because of his beautiful sports car mode and his cool face. This figure takes only 11 steps to convert from vehicle to robot and back. Around 14cm tall in robot mode.

The biggest robot in the pack is Motormaster who converts into a truck and also forms the face of Menasor. This one takes only 10 steps to shift between modes, robot is around 20cm tall. We haven’t tried combining all of them together yet. My son is still enjoying the toys as separate figures.

Dragstrip is a blue, black and yellow colour combination open-wheel racing car. This only takes 9 steps to convert. Around 13cm tall in robot mode.

The second figure that I like is Dead End, a red sports car with a yellow face. What’s not to like about the cool colour, awesome car mode and fighter robot mode? This one takes 11 steps to convert. Around 14cm tall in robot mode.

Breakdown is another racing car that comes in purple and aqua green color. He carries a red sword and has a serious face similar to Brake-Neck. This takes 12 steps to convert. Same height as Dead End and Brake-Neck at 14cm tall.

The smallest one in this pack is Blackjack who’s only almost half of Motormaster. It is the fastest to convert at 7 steps. It turns into a 2-door purple sports car with cool blue highlights. Around 10cm tall in robot mode.

It’s pretty amazing how a 6-year-old kid can easily play with these figures. He was able to follow most of the instructions, just needed a little bit of help with Dragstrip and Dead End. There are only 7 – 12 steps to follow in converting the cars to robots; quite fast and easy.

Another great thing with BrainFit is that each child gets full attention from the trainer and gets evaluated on a personal level. My son is enjoying his classes at BrainFit. He loves meeting other children, making new friends and doing activities with them. What improvements have I seen in him? His physical exercises has improved his coordination skills. He’s more confident than ever to explore different tools to write or draw. He has even began to use ballpoint pen and liner pen to draw figures such as cars, trucks and scenes. This is his own initiative and he’s happy to explore his own skills. I don’t think I’ve used ballpoint pen to write before I was 8 years old and my son is already using it to draw at the age of 6! This needs precise control compared with pencils. It’s great to see him enjoy this skill.

Great Experiences Ahead at Little Kingdom

When was the last time you visited Maju Junction or Jalan Sultan Ismail? If it was more than 3 months ago, now’s the perfect time to walk along this busy, lively street in Kuala Lumpur. Coming from Cheras, my son and I decided to take a train ride instead of driving down. Aside from it’s much faster than driving to town, my son enjoys train rides. Ah, convenience, speed and my son’s joy, a train ride to Maju Junction is perfect. Did I mention that the trip only costed RM5.20 two-way?

The trip from Cheras to Sultan Ismail station was fast, roughly 15 minutes on a Saturday morning. From the station, there’s a walkway leading directly to the entrance of Parkson Maju Junction. Very convenient. The guard is friendly and showed me the way to go up to Level 3, where an amazing experience awaits me and my little naughty boy at Little Kingdom.

A magical-themed play land boasting of 40,000 sq.ft., Parkson Edutainment’s Little Kingdom is a first-of-its-kind personalised learning edutainment park. It’s a place where kids and parents experience various realities, from fairy tales to space missions. Great time to see the Autobots and grab a chance to take home a toy set worth RM249!

Are you a Transformers fan? Which one is your favorite? And if you’re not, what about your child or kids? Wait a minute…who doesn’t like the Transformers? I’m an 80’s child and the Transformers was part of my childhood. Kerastase Elixir Ultime – Hair Serum

Is it worth spending a bit more on a hair serum?

I used to have a simple “wash and go” routine with my hair. That was until last year but then I realised that my hair is often exposed to harsh environmental elements like sunlight, dust, smoke, haze, dirt and more. Hair fall has become a concern and it came to my attention that I haven’t been taking good care of my hair after washing.

I used to shampoo my hair daily, I just can’t stand the feeling of sticky mane and the thought that it’s been outside. How to sleep and place my head on the pillow if my hair is dirty? Oh, man, I have to wash daily. The head of my digital marketing team, Rowena, who has this glorious hair, tells me that I shouldn’t. And, yeah, the internet says that, too. So I’ve started to alternate shampooing, every other day. But regular washing does dry my hair. During my visit to the salon a few months back, my stylist recommended that I use a serum: Kerastase Elixir Ultime. The first time she applied it on my hair, I felt the immediate difference. My hair was shinier, bouncy, smooth, less frizzy.

This elixir comes in a transparent, plastic bottle with pump. I like transparent containers because I can easily see how much is left. The serum itself is a golden yellow color with oil texture. But don’t worry; the oil texture leaves a great, non-sticky feeling on the hair. The scent is beautiful, reminds me of coconut oil but added with mild fragrance.

Price is a bit higher than pharmacy products, even other L’Oreal Paris hair serums. But I don’t mind paying a bit more. These cleansers are amazing. My favorite was the Moisturising Manuka Honey Cleansing Gel. I love honey and this cleansing gel looks exactly like honey. The color and viscosity of the gel itself looks edible, tempting to taste! The scent has a mild, sweet honey aroma and leaves a lovely sensation on the face after use. My skin feels clean, smooth yet moisturised after washing.

If your skin is acne-prone due to excess oil, you can try the Sebum-Control Amazon Clay Foam Cleanser. If you’re like me who has big pores, you can use the Deep-Cleansing Bamboo Charcoal. I alternate this with my Manuka Honey Cleanser.

I enjoyed using the Ice Plant Water Cool. It’s perfect during this hot weather. Do you sometimes feel that body lotion gives you a sticky sensation especially after bathing on a warm day? The gel is highly water-like, as you can see on my palm (I had a tough time shooting that moving blob of gel, haha), and also has water-like color. The scent of each gel is very mild. Because these gels are multi-purpose, they’re perfect to travel with! This head-to-toe gel can be used on the hair, the face, lips, eyes and entire body. I even use it on my son’s hair in the morning before school to control his “bedhead hair” as alternative to normal gel or hair oil. Oil can get sticky during the day.

It can also be used on the face but not directly sprayed; spray onto the palm first then apply on the face.

Smarter and Happier Kids with BrainFit Studio Programs

Geniuses are not born…they are made.

I strongly believe that all children have the potential to achieve a lot of things and reach their dreams. And we, parents, must give them the support and encouragement to discover themselves and develop their skills. If there’s a slight chance that we can possibly increase their capabilities by 1 or 2 or 5 or 10%, wouldn’t we do whatever it takes?

Since my son started going to school at the age of 3, I’ve started spending 30 minutes to 1 hour daily to do exercise books with him. It was hard at first, of course, children want to play and play whenever they can. But I know that once this habit is fixed and with interesting books and tools, he will begin to find learning as a fun thing to do. It took a lot of patience, time and hard work but now, it’s already a daily habit and I can leave him alone to accomplish his books while I do other things, like write this article and share an experience with you about brain fitness.

I’ve never heard of the term “brain fitness” before. I came across this concept during my quest for children’s activities last year. According to scientific research, we can improve our brain at whatever age we may be, much like how we can improve physical fitness.

An interesting brand I found was BrainFit. I saw their centre previously at The Curve shopping mall and the name itself already made me curious.

BrainFit aims to help children, including babies as young as 3 months up to 18 years old, unleash their intelligence and achieve their true potential. They work with neuro-scientists from the Scientific Learning Corporation to develop programs that children will benefit from.

A tool called CognitiveMAP™, BrainFit®’s proprietary neuroscientific tool, measures the brain fitness level of an individual. It helps trainers to understand each child’s unique brain fitness profile and to objectively measure improvement in cognitive skills after brain fitness training.

CognitiveMAP™ evaluates a student’s cognitive skills in the 5 brain fitness systems of:

1) Visual processing

2) Auditory processing

3) Sensory-Motor processing

4) Attention and Memory

5) Social-Emotional functioning

These 5 systems are important because they form the foundation of “engine for learning”. What you do is to schedule an appointment for your child to go through the CognitiveMAP evaluation. From this, a certified trainer will determine the most suitable program for your child to take.

Depending on the age of your child, BrainFit provides 3 key programs: BrainFit Baby (9 months to 3 years old), BrainFit Junior (3 to 6 years old) and BrainFit Scholar (6 to 18 years old).

My son is 6 years old, turning 7 this year, and he was suitable to proceed with BrainFit Scholar program. This program aims to give school-going children a learning advantage through “mental work-outs”. It comes with key mental muscle programs: SMART Moves, SMART Vision, SMART Listening and SMART Focus. All these are aimed at improving our children’s performance across various areas, from body and spatial awareness up to social skills. He started 2 weeks ago, 2 sessions of 60 minutes per week.

On his first session, my son was introduced to exercises that he’d never done before. He was thrilled to learn and do what the trainer taught him to do. Doing the exercises with other kids is also great as he learns how to be more social and comfortable with the tasks. I was actually nervous if he can stay focused for a stretch of 60 minutes in a new classroom. Surprisingly, with other children and with a patient trainer, he did.

The classrooms are clean, bright and organized.

During his 2nd session, he went through similar exercises but a bit harder this time. He still enjoyed it and had fun with 2 other children in class. Multi-dimensional play? Sounds cool and fun!

Lego is always exploring and enabling newer and interesting ways for parents to enjoy uniquely curated experiences with their children. As a parent, I work hard to ensure that my child engages in different types of activities and have a diversified experience, whether it’s something creative, educational or simply fun. It’s great to see that LEGO recognizes this need for children and parents. And they have recently launched this amazing multi-platform product line, the LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS.

This one is entirely new and different from other Lego collections. The LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS enables children and Lego fans to enjoy both online and offline realms while training to be the best knights of Knighton.

I love the concept of multi-dimensional play. This combines the physical world with the digital, allowing all of us to immerse ourselves not just in 1 platform but also across different channels or media. Gone are the days that we only enjoy the LEGO toys that we build. With LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS, we enjoy an app (Merlok 2.0) with a virtual school (the NEXO Academy website) with animated TV series (via Cartoon Network) with comics and with the LEGO building sets. All these platforms work together to give our kids the best multi-dimensional experience that we’ve never had before! Now, LEGO is truly not just a toy…it has gone above and beyond what a toy does!

The Academy gives you access to a lot of information such as the Nexo Knights, products, videos, latest news, events and more. My son has started his training with the Nexo Knights Academy. It’s fun and easy! Just start with a quest and every successful step earns you a shield that you can immediately scan. This is also saved in the armory and can be scanned later. You can even edit your profile with different pieces of Lego figure!

Of course, my son’s LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS multi-dimensional play won’t be complete without building the Lego set. He was thrilled to fix his first Nexo Knights toys: Ultimate Robin figure that comes with full armor and 2 pieces of chicken drumstick (haha!), and Beast Master’s Chaos Chariot that comes with Nexo Knight Macy. It’s cool that this new Lego line has added a female character in the team. Macy is the princess of the realm and dedicated to protect Knighton even when it’s tough for her to prove herself to her father, the king. See, I’ve been absorbed by the story already.
