In a survey conducted by Millward Brown last year, commissioned by Dove® Body Wash, among 108 women aged between 18-35, time and money are the biggest obstacles in pampering oneself on a regular basis. To this, I truly agree. I can’t even find the right time to cut my hair before it gets too long or have time for spa. Moreover, it can be quite costly to go for spa regularly. Being a working mother, my family and my job are my priorities versus spending time for myself. I probably spend 1 and ½ hours on myself daily but these are mainly to fulfill necessities such as bathing, skincare routine and applying makeup to go to work. If I have some time, I would spend another half hour on a weekend to redo my pedicure by myself. Those pretty much cover my “me” time.

I was lucky to be invited to Dove Skindulgence campaign launch last week and discover ways to pamper myself. Dove has launched the School of Skindulgence (S.O.S.) Facebook Campaign where we are encouraged to take a pledge to love ourselves, eat right, and stay active through simple no-hassle, no fuss, inexpensive activities that we can do at home for ourselves.
Skindulgence is a simple routine that can be done at home. All you need is to follow these 3 pillars:

It doesn’t have to be a complicated diet where you need to quickly change the way you enjoy food. Take one step at a time. For example, instead of your usual lunch or dinner with rice and carbohydrate-rich food, maybe you can opt for a garden salad once or twice a week. And instead of having your carbonated drink, switch to fruit juice or milk every few days. It can be small change but these are still steps forward to a better you!

Don’t panic! You can stay active with simple activities; you don’t need to go to the gym regularly or compete in a marathon! Chill. That’s the point of this campaign: indulge and pamper yourself with less time and less money, and doing simple routines. Staying active can be as easy as walking up the stairs instead of taking the lift. Yeah, I know; if your condo unit is at the 10th floor then it’s not very easy. Maybe you can take the lift up to the 5th floor then walk from there. Or if it’s not very safe, do a simple morning routine of jumping jacks. This one gets me energized during the day.
During Dove’s Skindulgence launch, all the guests were divided into 3 groups: A, B and C. Each group was tasked to undergo a certain pillar. I was with the “Stay Active” group and an instructor gave us tips on how to perform quick routines, especially when we’re at work. Those were simple neck, shoulder, hip and leg exercises. It’s amazing how small things can make a big difference.

At home, maybe you can start with some short exercises every few days if daily is too much for you. Pick up the pace then you’ll eventually have more regular time doing it!

The Malaysian Women’s Weekly and Guess Kids announce The ‘Most Stylish Mummy & Me’ Contest

Kuala Lumpur, October 31, 2013 – The Malaysian Women’s Weekly, a leading women’s lifestyle magazine in Malaysia, today announced the launch of the “Most Stylish Mummy & Me Contest”, a nationwide photo competition presented by GUESS kids. 


The “Most Stylish Mummy & Me Contest” is open to all Malaysian citizens and permanent residents. Mothers who wish to participate simply have to submit a photo of themselves and their child (between the ages of one and 14), capturing their most fashionable moment together. 

The top five winning mums and kids will be styled and photographed for the cover of an exclusive fashion booklet by The Malaysian Women’s Weekly, and they will also win RM5,000 worth of GUESS and GUESS kids shopping vouchers. 


There are two ways to enter the competition:


A) Upload a digital photo at the website http://www.mumandme.my or, 


B) Shoppers who spend a minimum of RM200 in one transaction at participating GUESS kids stores will receive a goodie bag consisting of shopping vouchers and GUESS kids merchandise worth more than RM200; a free makeover and portrait photo, and an automatic entry to the “Most Stylish Mummy & Me Contest”. Participants at the roadshow will also get to enjoy sweet treats and fun activities.


The roadshows will be happening at: GUESS kids Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, November 16 and 17, from 10.30am to 7pm; and GUESS kids 1 Utama, November 23 and 24, from 10.30am to 7pm.
