KidZania Kuala Lumpur Appoints 20 Children to Govern The City for Cool Kids!

KidZania CongreZZ elects into office 20 children as part of its legislative body

KidZania Kuala Lumpur, the award-winning indoor educational and entertainment theme park celebrated its inaugural KidZania CongreZZ, with 20 children being sworn into office. CongreZZ is the legislative governmental body of KidZania, overseen by 20 children who are its elected representatives and naturalised citizens. Voted into office, KidZania CongreZZ Kids meet quarterly at the city level to share ideas and voice opinions in order to keep KidZania’s spirit alive, current and socially relevant. The purpose and intent of these meetings are to benefit the KidZanian community by discussing topics such as media, entertainment, education, literature, as well as sharing the main concerns of tourists and citizens of KidZania.
CongreZZ Kids are required to serve KidZania for a period of one year, in which a new election campaign will take place at the end of each term. To ensure that only the most deserving candidates are elected into office, candidates have to go through a selection process that includes, résumé submission, video submission and a face-to-face interview.

The inaugural KidZania CongreZZ campaign at KidZania Kuala Lumpur attracted over 200 résumés. These were then shortlisted into video submissions for the final judging round, in a face-to-face interview before a panel of judges who comprised of YBhg. Elected CongreZZ Kids were judged based on their exemplary aptitude in the areas of education, communication skills, sociability, creativity, respectfulness, articulation as well as overall personality attributes by the panel of judges, whose expertise cover the fields of education, training and marketing.

KidZania KL Celebrates 2nd Anniversary

KidZania was a mystery to me until last Sunday. Although I’ve heard of it several times and meet kids who go ‘gaga’ over the mention of KidZania, I didn’t really have the time to explore what this place is about, and moreover, my son was only 2 years old when KidZania first arrived in Malaysia.

Oh, how fast time flies! KidZania KL, award-winning indoor family edutainment centre, just celebrated its second anniversary with its industry partners, children and parents in a day that proved that ‘All Good Things Come in 2s’! Now my son is already 4 years old and I was just delighted to be part of KidZania’s celebration together with him. At this age, he will have a better understanding of what to do in this play land. For those who also find KidZania a new concept, KidZania is an indoor city where children can engage into different activities that simulate real life professions such as fire fighter, baker, chef, radio DJ, dentist, policemen, postman and more.
Entering KidZania for the first time, I was welcomed by flights of escalators that lead up to the edutainment area that is beaming with happy children all around. I actually didn’t know where to start. Luckily, a helpful staff informed me that I need to encash the cheque at CIMB bank. So my naughty son and I headed to CIMB.

My son was given this stack of paper money, or what KidZania refers to as KidZos. The KidZos are to be used to pay for some of the activities while some activities allow children to earn money. It’s a great way to educate children about real life, and how they will eventually need to work on their own to have money for things they want to do or buy.
In conjunction with KidZania’s 2nd anniversary, the first 200 hundred visitors were given free entry, with subsequent visitors receiving 40% off regular ticket prices. There were special performances by the Beaming Strings Ensemble and the KidZania Kuala Lumpur Artistic Percussionists, as well as 200 party packs that included popcorn and exclusive merchandise for kids who turned up at the park at 2:00pm, kept the party going.

KidZania KL also held a video contest and the winners were announced that day. The grand prize winners, eleven year old Emily Gunn Shian Mum of Petaling Jaya and eleven year old Lau Hau Shien of Klang, each received an all-expenses paid vacation for a family of four to KidZania Dubai, worth RM25,000. Wow!

The ceremony was marked with lighting of several cakes. Each letter from “KidZania” had 1 rectangular cake and the guests of honor lighted the cakes. This was followed by a dance performance of KidZania’s mascots that mesmerized the kids including my son. He particularly liked Bache, a cute dog in light blue. I rarely get a chance to take a photo of him with a mascot because he doesn’t want to. But he really liked Bache.

After the ceremonies, the first thing he tried was the BHP petrol station. Yes, like a lot of young boys, my son has this special attraction to things that involve cars, train or anything with wheels. After performing the activity, the children were given several KidZos. So this is actually a “money-making” activity where they can earn. Good stuff.

Then he tried the auto repair shop, of course, because it involved wheels! He was so engrossed with removing tires from the red car. He actually did this activity a few times!

He also tried a few other things such as baking a cupcake at Ayam Brand and he wanted to be a firefighter. However, the queue to the firefighter center was very long and my son cannot wait. But he had a blast with the auto repair shop so he’s happy.
We also visited the National Store of Kidzania where cool merchandise are for sale. See those adorable Bache stuff? But my son’s addiction to wheels prevailed. He picked a DIY wooden puzzle figure of a double-decker bus.

The place is truly a haven for children and even parents. I’m sure it will be a delight for other parents, too, to see their kids engaging in simulation of careers that encourages children to think ahead. New activities are regularly introduced at KidZania Kuala Lumpur as new industry partners become part of the children’s city, giving young visitors more edutainment experiences and exposure to real-life professions.  In 2013, 43 industry partners joined KidZania Kuala Lumpur.

Don’t panic! You can stay active with simple activities; you don’t need to go to the gym regularly or compete in a marathon! Chill. Staying active can be as easy as walking up the stairs instead of taking the lift. Yeah, I know; if your condo unit is at the 10th floor then it’s not very easy. Maybe you can take the lift up to the 5th floor then walk from there. Or if it’s not very safe, do a simple morning routine of jumping jacks. This one gets me energized during the day.
During Dove’s Skindulgence launch, all the guests were divided into 3 groups: A, B and C. Each group was tasked to undergo a certain pillar. I was with the “Stay Active” group and an instructor gave us tips on how to perform quick routines, especially when we’re at work. Those were simple neck, shoulder, hip and leg exercises. It’s amazing how small things can make a big difference.

At home, maybe you can start with some short exercises every few days if daily is too much for you. Pick up the pace then you’ll eventually have more regular time doing it!

The restaurant serves a mixture of western-Italian food. Amethyst’s signature dishes are rather unique. Such is the ratatouille steak with saffron rice. The well marinated beef is cooked to tender texture and served with saffron rice, home-made chutney, and ratatouille. The flavours are nothing short of a rich combination of sweet, sour and spicy, all in one plate.

Other signature dishes include their Barbequed Chicken Wings, which is marinated in a secret sauce; a variety of vegetarian pastas; special Greece mix fillet sandwich; and more. Benefit Beauty Bash with Butterfly Project

Happy New Year! It’s the beginning of 2014 and I had to keep reminding myself to write ‘4’ instead of ‘3’ on dates. Lucky I use an erasable pen.
I wouldn’t let this month pass by without sharing a post about one of the most fun beauty event I’ve attended as a butterfly with the Butterfly Project. Last month, me and other gorgeous butterflies had a chance to discover tips and tricks for applying make-up in a few minutes. Benefit Cosmetics Malaysia at Starhill (that’s on a floor above Sephora Starhill) held a gathering for beauty bloggers who are simply in love with Benefit.

Pretty Sabby Prue was the make-up model for the day. James did a really good job in transforming her eye into an even more captivating one. Sabby already has a naturally beautiful pair of eyes but with James’s makeup technique (here seen on one eye first), Sabby’s eyes became more gorgeous and perfect for going out or for an event.

‘Tis the season to be jolly…and fabulous! For the month of December, I’m sure we all have several events to attend to. There are annual dinners, Christmas parties, holiday dinners and probably weddings. I, for one, have 3 events to prepare for: our company annual dinner tomorrow, family dinner next weekend and a birthday party plus dinner on Christmas day. Parties everywhere. Are you prepared?
Aside from the presents to shop for and the attire to wear, don’t forget to have THE LOOK! Ever since I stepped into College/ University, I always make sure that my face is part of my presentation. At 16, I’m already wearing eyeliner and lipstick as part of my college look. I probably started with eye shadows at a later age of 21 but, hey, not a bad age to start learning makeup!
I’m not really the type who follows color makeup trends and sticks to those colors for my look. I love smoky eyes, neutrals, purples, greens, blues and metallic hues. But one thing is for sure; I must always blend solid black on my eye makeup. Call it boring or typical but I particularly blend black to have a darker, bigger eyes effect.
And what about this holiday season? I’m not recommending particular colors or a specific look but I’m sharing some tips to be gorgeous for the holidays (and for other occasions)!

Tip No. 1 – Get your brows trimmed or waxed by experts!
We sometimes overlook the impact of having nicely-shaped eyebrows. I myself am guilty of forgetting my eyebrows. It seems minimal but those 2 lines of hairs adorn our eyes. When not properly cared for, there will be stray hairs around and it messes up the way you look. Overly thick eyebrows can also look quite messy. Inappropriate shape can totally change your look in a not very nice way.

Tip No. 4: Get a good foundation.
I’m someone who will not get out of the house without applying foundation, except when I’m asked to, like when I attended the Benefit Beauty Bash last Sunday. Although I work hard in having healthy skin, I was not blessed with pore-less face and quite the opposite. My nose, forehead, chin and cheek areas have very visible pores. If those are pockets, I probably don’t need to bring a bag everyday!

Spanish Food, Great Wines and a French Sommelier in Malaysia

It’s a rare occasion to have the opportunity to dine and enjoy wine with a sommelier. So when this gem-of-a-chance came, I was thrilled to be part of something that I’ll truly treasure and enjoy.

One lovely Thursday evening, I found myself treading the classy pavement along Bangsar Shopping Centre where my desire for good Spanish food and good wines brought me to The Pressroom. I was about to indulge into a delightful wine experience.

In this country, it is not easy to find wine experts even in wine shops. So for wine lovers who need to shop for wines and even for those who just need wine for an event or occasion, picking wines off the shelf can be challenging or even frightening.  Imagine yourself walking in to a shop full of walls and shelves of different types of wines, different countries, different regions, different winemakers, different vintages and, of course, price. Which one to pick? Most of the time, when you ask the staff around the wine shop, you also wouldn’t get much advice except for the price difference.
Let’s say you were brave enough to try something you haven’t tried before. If you don’t like the wine or if it’s corked, can you bring it back and change for a new one?
Great news to fellow wine lovers (or to those who are interested to discover more about wine)! Wine Talk, an online wine delivery service, makes wines easy. For starters that evening, we were served with the first white wine of the night, Kiwi Walk Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. This classic NZ wine is a very fresh & easy-to-drink wine, packed with great tropical aromas. Kiwi Walk is an addictively crisp & fresh wine, sourced from premium vineyards in Marlborough.






The second one, which later on turned out to be the ‘favorite of the night’, was Louis Guntrum ‘Royal Blue’ Rieslingfrom Rheinhessen, Germany. The ‘Royal Blue’ is an off-dry wine, boasting some sugar and a very soft 9.5% alcohol level (this is a good clue to know if a Riesling is sweet or not; 12% & over: dry; 8-12%: off-dry; below 8%: sweet). It showcases an elegant and classical Riesling scent, paired with aromas of tropical fruits, with green apples and citrus, pineapple and melon. It has an excellent balance of sweetness and acidity. It can be enjoyed by itself as an aperitif, or with lightly spicy food, roasted duck or smoked meats. This is my personal pick for the night!

The third wine, which is also the most interesting in terms of color, was the Gérard Bertrand ‘Art De Vivre’ Grenache Rosé from Languedoc, France, costs RM60 per bottle. This Rosé wine is a perfect introduction to the classics of the region. Made from 100% Grenache, it shows a delightfully light color, lots of fruit flavors and a fresh and aromatic palate. Great for a wide range of dishes, from seafood, fish to Barbecue meats. I seriously think that this is great for weddings mainly because of its color, which somehow appears romantic and sweet.

The fourth wine was La Closerie des Lys Pinot Noir from Languedoc, France, costs RM58 per bottle. This Pinot Noir has an expressive nose of black cherry and spices with a beautiful attack; this is ample and fruity with a fresh final and delicate oak hints. Beautiful wine, serve it slightly chilled with some roast duck, or grilled lamb chops. I’m not a fan of red wines yet but this is something I can enjoy.


The fifth wine was Logan ‘Apple Tree Flat’ Shiraz from Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia, costs RM65 per bottle. This Shiraz shows a deep, rich red color, and a softer palate than regular Aussie Shiraz, with flavors of mixed berries and sweet spices. So if you aren’t into big, bold, juicy Shiraz, this will be your friend. If you like the big wines, you can still enjoy this wine. It won’t hurt you! A great match with classic roasted lamb or cheese platters.


The last wine was Finca Sobreño ‘Crianza’from Toro, Spain, costs RM69.60 per bottle. It has a pretty bouquet of blueberry jam and raspberry that is well defined. The palate is well balanced, with a smooth, silky texture, crisp acidity and a citrus, fresh, primal finish. David recommends decanting for this wine before consumption.

It was truly a wonderful experience to dine and enjoy wine together with a wine expert or sommelier. David guided us through each wine and gave a lot of helpful tips about each type. You’ll feel more ‘clever’ and familiar about the wines you’re drinking. David Stephan is a French sommelier who has been in Asia for 10 years now so his palate has been familiar to Asian cuisine aside from European. He enjoys the variety of food in Malaysia and finds excitement in exploring new dishes while enjoying them with wine.
