The first Kate item that I bought a few years back was black liquid eyeliner. I loved the texture, the applicator and the resistance to my oily eyelids. Of course, my love for cosmetics drives me to regularly explore other brands when the need arises and I can say that Kate is one of the good ones I’ve had. Since Kate is created and made by Kanebo Cosmetics, Kate is an affordable brand that I also trust.

A few months ago, I was looking for an eyeshadow palette with diamond luster for those days when I want to have luminous eye effect. Strolling around Mid Valley’s Lower Ground floor one day, I found myself exploring Kate Cosmeticsroadshow where I saw the Colorcious Diamond eyeshadow. I decided to try it and also bought the black liquid eyeliner that I liked.

This eyeshadow comes in a plastic compact with clear windows showing the colors inside. The casing is mainly black, signature of Kate cosmetics. It has one eyeshadow applicator as with standard brands.

Each palette contains 5 shades:

Highlight color
Shiny color

The colors are easy to apply, with good texture that is easy to blend. The first 4 colors create the most lustrous effect while the fifth dark color, serves as the smokey eye effect color.

I don’t normally use the standard applicator that comes with the eyeshadow palette. I prefer to use eyeshadow brush. But I’m sure gals can use this effectively with the applicator; some of you may even choose to use fingertips! Well, I’m not good at that, though…I’d stick to my brushes.

So this is how my (left) eye looks with Kate Colorcious Diamond Eyeshadow. I also use the 3^rd color – shiny medium color, which is a bit bluish, under my eyes to add highlight and shine.

If you prefer to have very dark effect as I do, the dark color might not be enough with dry application. You can opt to add a drop of an eyeshadow intensifier (like DuWop Color Payoff) or use pencil eyeliner to darken the corners (here I used Maybelline eye studio black eyeliner).

This Kate eyeshadow is a good palette to have if you like creating lustrous eye effect. The shimmer from the colors can easily make the eyes look brighter and radiant, especially when you have dark, puffy, stressed eyes.

Covo Cosmetics – Luxe for Less

It’s wonderful to discover a beauty and cosmetics brand that aims to make beauty accessible to all without burning a hole in the pocket.

I first encountered Covo in 2012 while doing my store visit routine in Berjaya Times Square for a brand that I used to manage. When I saw the simple, sleek counter design in mainly black color, I already found it interesting. Colors pop up nicely against black and it was easy to be captured by Covo’s color collections.

On my birthday last June, my good friend, Sulo, generously gave me a beautiful set of Covo cosmetics. She’s a dear friend who understands my beauty addiction (haha!). My present, a set of 5 items, were neatly arranged in a box inside a paper bag adorned with a French-themed drawing. I liked this feminine and artistic touch of the brand. I haven’t tested all the items yet but I’m excited to talk about what I got. There’s just something very clever with Covo’s items. Mario Badescu Temporary Lifting Mask Product Review

Interesting name…but can this product really do an immediate, temporary improvement on my face?

I’ve been curious to try this brand since a few months ago and I finally got myself to purchase not just one but two Mario Badescu products. I purchased these 2 items (Silver Powder and Temporary Lifting Mask) at Luxola, the online beauty site that I’m really enjoying delivery service from nowadays. I just love the efficient service and, of course, the enticing promotions.

The Temporary Lifting Mask is a very interesting item as it deems to tighten the skin and minimize pores instantly, although the name clearly says that it’s ‘temporary’. Still, I would want to have a product that can really do that, especially when I have important events to attend, such as weddings, work-related dinners or functions.

The product comes in a simple white plastic jar with a white plastic seal upon removing the cap. After removing the seal, you will see the pink-colored cream mask and will be welcomed with the fragrance of rose. Rose?! Wait, oh no….

I didn’t check the full ingredients before purchasing the Temporary Lifting Mask! I actually have this skin reaction to face products that contain rose, except for 2 brands that I’ve tested: Perricone MD and Talika Paris. These 2 have products that contain rose but thankfully have not caused my skin to react adversely. Should I bravely try a Mario Badescu product that contains ‘rose’?

One of the things I do when I have fear of skin reaction to a certain product is ‘patch testing’, just the personal way of doing it, not the laboratory type. I either apply on the pulse of my wrist, meaning that soft area where you can feel your pulse, or behind the ears. And so I did BOTH, and left the cream there for an hour, since this is only a mask. If you’re testing a moisturizer or toner, or anything meant to be absorbed by the skin, it’s best to leave it overnight to check reactions.

Like most cream masks, the Mario Badescu Temporary Lifting Mask (TLM) also has a thick texture but easy to apply on the skin.

Well, I didn’t have skin reaction on my wrist or behind my ears after testing. So I braved the ‘rose content’ and applied the TLM on my face after washing. It starts as a light rose color on the face. I would have applied the mask on my entire face but since this is the first time, I’d better reduce my risk and focus on pore-problem areas to test the effects.

After 10 minutes, the color of the mask turned to pinkish rose color. It has a mild tingling or tightening feel, which I really liked. It made me feel that the product is working…

After rinsing with lukewarm water, here is the difference…

First of all, thank goodness my skin didn’t react violently to the rose content.

After using the mask for the first time, I feel the difference on my pore-problem areas: smoother, softer and pores are less visible. Lifting might be hard to notice and I also didn’t apply it to my entire face BUT my skin felt tight and fresh. I love the feel of my skin right after using this mask! I’m not a believer of masks before until I’ve tried several good ones and this Mario Badescu product is now another trusted one.

Definitely will continue to use this, maybe 3 times a month and enjoy the immediate results!

What a delight to get my hands on the new NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow. Being a smoky-eye addict, I really go for colors that will create deep, defined tones on my eyes. I add a tone of black eyeshadow or apply my Nars eye paint on the eyelid and as eyeliner. I just can’t survive without a dark tone! So my eye makeup palette for daily application will consist of around 4-5 colors. Although I enjoy applying several colors, it can sometimes be a challenge when you’re rushing for an early business meeting while getting your child ready for school, too, if you need to use several eyeshadow palettes to create the look.

Can’t you use a wet brush on normal eyeshadow to get the same effect? Well, not really. You can try using a wet brush on a non-dual functioning eyeshadow but the texture won’t be good, resulting to an uneven application.

So I got myself 3 Nars items to create my new look this season: 2 shades of Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow namely Europa and Supra, and 1 new brush to apply them with, Wet/Dry Eyeshadow Brush #49. Excited!

I definitely love the packaging, as with the other Nars items that I have. This eyeshadow comes in Nars signature black matte compact but this one has a magnet closure, making sure that it’s secure even if you forget to close until it clicks as with other compacts. It has a built-in mirror, convenient for ultra close-up view while applying makeup. The Europa color is peach-like, great as a base color and highlighter. I apply this under the eyebrows, under my eyes and in between my inner eye and nose bridge as highlight.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Supra/ Black orchid

This is an amazing color. At first, I thought it was just deep brown (maybe I’m color blind) but upon checking the website, it’s also defined as black orchid so it will have that deep purple or violet tone.

Testing it with dry application first, the colors have a nice, fine sheen finish.

Now, here I tested how it appears with a wet brush, oh my! You can see how intensified the colors were. The texture is just lovely and very easy to apply.

As I mentioned, I normally use 4-5 colors on my eyes. But I wanted to test out if I can use these 2 Nars colors to complete my eye color. First, I applied the 2 shades using dry brush on my eyes as basic 2 colors. Then, using a wet tissue, I dampened my Nars brush #49 and applied each shade on my eyes to create a more defined set of colors. Using a dry eyeshadow brush, I then blended the colors again on my eyelids. (I’ll probably do simple photo collage of the steps later on but I’m too excited and I can’t wait to share this now)

I love the texture and finish of these eyeshadows! Here’s a closer look of my eye makeup…I may not be a pro but I found it amazing that I can create this look with just 2 eyeshadow colors instead of 4 or 5. Just shifting between wet and dry applications can create a well-blended, smokey eye look. The Supra shade is very easy to build, making smokey eyes easier for me even without using a black shade. But I’m sure this will look even more defined with my Nars eye paint 🙂

Stepping out of the bathroom engulfed in lovely scent is always delightful

For the past years, my shower routine has been accompanied by shower gel brands that are well known for body care, probably the same as what you ladies also use. I enjoy bathing in fragrant foam that leaves the skin soft, smooth and smelling good. But at the same time, I also need to watch out for products that tend to over dry my skin.

Salvatore Ferragamo, the Italian fashion brand that I’ve known for luxury bags and shoes, launched the sexy fragrance Signorina in 2011. The name or word ‘Signorina’ is an Italian courtesy title for an unmarried woman, which can be used alone or before a name. It is used to address a lady as a sign of respect or endearment, for example, someone would address me as Signorina Celeste, if I was still single, haha! Pretty cool and romantic, huh? The right pronunciation for ‘Signorina’ is sin-yo-ri-na, with the ‘gn’ sounding as ‘ny’.

I haven’t tried the perfume yet but I was elated when I received the Salvatore Ferragamo Signorina shower gel as a present. Well, who doesn’t love any designer brand item?

The Signorina shower gel comes in a soft pink box, sealed in transparent plastic. For photography purposes, I removed the plastic cover in this photo. The name Signorina is embossed and glossed in black against the soft pink box color. This style and design for the packaging made it very simple yet classy and elegant, a representation of what a ‘signorina’ should be.

The shower gel bottle is sexy. I loved the simple but stylish bottle design for this bath item. The plastic bottle is transparent, revealing the light golden yellow color of the gel. It is topped by a soft pink, round screw cap, which replicates the soft pink tone of the box. Isn’t that a cute piece?

I use it with a bath lily to bathe. Of course, you have the option to simply pour it in your hand and lather all over your body but I’m the type who loves the feeling of gentle scrubbing with a sponge or my favorite bath lily (this pink one is from The Body Shop at only RM15, I think).

How was it? Unbelievably captivating. The scent leaves you wanting to bathe again. I personally love floral scents, especially those that are blended with jasmine notes. With this shower gel, a little goes a long way when used with bath lily. The foam forms well to cleanse the skin properly. Leave it on your body for 2-3 minutes and smell the scent after rinsing. Ooohhh, soooo good.

I’ve been using it for a week now and another good news is I didn’t have an adverse reaction, which I often experience when using shower gels with intense or lasting scents. The Signorina shower gel is a great shower companion. I must consider buying the perfume version once I finish (or when I’m about to finish) my Valentina EDP, another fragrance addiction I have at the moment.

Sephora Pearl Mask for Whitening and Brightening

Brightening my skin has now become one of my aging concerns. My continuous exposure to tropical weather and driving without full black tint have done their fair share of giving my face dull areas and dark spots.

I wasn’t really into masks until I’ve tested out a few good ones recently. On my birthday last month, I received more beauty items from good friends. One of the gifts was this pack of Sephora Pearl Mask for Whitening and Brightening. Oh, excitement! Thanks, Jen!

Sephora Pearl Mask

Natural Origin White Pearl

The mask sheets are neatly packed in a hard plastic case. The individual sheets and the case itself are in soft pink color. The words “Pearl mask” are in metallic silver print, giving it a touch of elegance and the feeling of “brightening”.

The back of each pack contains clear instructions on how to use it. I know that most of us are already aware of how to apply the mask but I appreciate it when brands make a conscious effort to ensure that a customer or user will apply a product properly.

Each pack is also stamped with EXPIRY DATE, which is a plus for me. As an end user, I want all my beauty products to clearly indicate expiry dates and life after opening.

So how do you use the Sephora Pearl Mask:

1) Remove the mask from its sachet. The sachet comes with an easy tear cut so you just rip it open from there.

2) Apply the mask on your cleansed face.

3) Take off the mask after 20 minutes. No need to rinse.

* Apply 3 or more times a week for ideal results.

How do I look?

Compared to other masks that I’ve used before, this one is a bit thicker but not uncomfortable on the face. It’s just a bit harder to adjust the holes and opening to fit properly but it’s manageable. I normally lie down while waiting for 20 minutes to finish. I’d probably watch with my son or read a magazine while waiting.

The skin feels soft and smooth after use of the mask but I don’t expect it to immediately show results of whitening and brightening with just a few applications. To me, this is just meant to complement my whitening skincare regimen but not expected to make significant improvement. Overall, it is a good mask to use 3-4 times a week while I’m using skincare products to address dull and uneven skin tone.

Here are 2 of my The Body Shop favorites at the moment: Spa Wisdom Hand & Foot butter and my Chocomania Lip Butter. But today I’m just talking about the hand and foot butter.

Nowadays, I really pay attention to moisturizing not just my face and neck but also my body. Aging takes its toll on other parts of the body, too, so I must make sure that I try to get most of it taken care of well.

I do suffer from flaky arms and legs once in a while, mostly because I’m lazy or rushing during the day to apply lotion after bathing. I only have enough time to do this at night, before going to sleep. I’ve been using body butters before going to sleep because it works well in moisturizing the skin overnight, especially since we sleep in an air-conditioned room.

This butter comes in a transparent jar with airtight cover, making sure it is protected and will last longer. The jar reminds me of food container and I know that I can recycle the jar after I finish the product. Nice reusable packaging.

I love the butter texture that spreads easily on the skin. Since it is a body ‘butter’, it definitely leaves a film of butter moisture so I won’t recommend this if you’re going out on a sunny day, unless you have ultra dry skin. But this is perfect for night use and you’ll wake up to smoother, softer skin all over your body.

Give it one sniff and you’ll fall in love with the serene, sweet scent. It’s actually delicious, like something I can eat (well, I restrained myself from attempting to). I apply it at night on my arms, elbows, legs, knees, feet and on my son’s feet. It’s so easy to fall in love with this butter!
