Infant and child nutrition programme MyNutriBaby launches nationwide contest in conjunction with World Breastfeeding Month

Breastfeeding is the best way to nourish a baby, but some mothers are unable to do so smoothly and continuously. They try to breastfeed exclusively for at least 6 months, but eventually discontinue their efforts, often due to a lack of support from the people around them. In light of this, several professional bodies have come together to launch a contest to promote increased support among Malaysians for breastfeeding mothers.
The contest, #LetsSupportBreastfeeding, will run from 18 August to 19 September 2014. Interested participants can visit www.mynutribaby.org.my. Here, they can watch a video which highlights how a breastfeeding mother’s efforts are improved by the support she receives from her husband, her mother-in-law and her employer. They can then nominate someone who is breastfeeding or has breastfeed and share how they have supported this person’s efforts. Both the nominee and nominator stand to win great prizes.
#LetsSupportBreastfeedingis an initiative from MyNutriBaby, a community education programme spearheaded by Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM) in collaboration with the Malaysian Paediatric Association (MPA), Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (OGSM) and National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN). The programme is supported by Philips AVENT Malaysia.

“MyNutriBaby is a programme dedicated to help parents improve their children’s nutritional status for better growth and development,” said Dr Tee E Siong, President of NSM. “It aims to translate the key messages of the Malaysian Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents, released by the Ministry of Health in 2013, into simple easy-to-follow messages for the public.”
He added that, with many members of the organising committee being parents themselves, they fully understand the challenges experienced by breastfeeding mothers.
According to Dr Tee, there are many mothers who wish to breastfeed because of its many benefits.  “Breast milk offers complete nutrition for the baby’s growth and development, and it contains antibodies that help protect the baby from infections. The mother also receives benefits such as improved bonding with her baby and faster post-pregnancy weight loss. This is why it is recommended that mothers give their babies only breast milk in the first six months. Mothers should continue to breastfeed after the child has started complementary foods, until the child is two,” he said.
However, there are mothers who discontinue breastfeeding due to reasons such as latching problems, discomfort and pain, or having to go back to work. Also, workplace pressure, stress and fatigue can affect breast milk production, causing some mothers to believe that they are not capable of producing enough breast milk.
“Many frustrations associated with breastfeeding can be lessened by the support from the people around the mother,” said Dr Tee. Even small gestures, such as providing a listening ear, go a long way in improving the mother’s confidence and determination to keep breastfeeding.  “This is why we encourage people to take part in #LetsSupportBreastfeeding. It is a great opportunity to let a special mother know how much you appreciate and support her efforts!”

I’m a very bad traveller. One of the challenges I have when traveling, especially via plane, is motion sickness, leading to nausea AND migraine. Novomin has anti-emetic properties and is used for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting, such as in travel or motion sickness. It is available in a convenient blister pack and comes in a tasty orange flavour syrup suitable for children 12 years old and below. 
How to take Novomin tablets:
Take the first dose 30 minutes before your journey
For ADULTS – take 1 to 2 tablets
Children over 12 years – 1 tablet
Children aged 7 to 12 – half to 1 tablet
For short journey – 1 tablet is sufficient
For long journey – dose may be repeated after 8 hours

How was I during and after my flight? I was great! Seriously, how come I haven’t heard of this travel sickness pill before? I simply took 1 tablet half an hour before my flight while waiting. But, man, I didn’t have nausea or migraine, I was feeling normal. In fact, I was too normal that I even had the energy and drive to draft a blog article while enjoying my in-flight meal…

How to use i-Qids for children below 12 years of age:
Mix 1 sachet with 150ml of cold or room temperature water and it’s ready to drink. Take before breakfast. For kids 1-12 years old, take 1 sachet a day. For children and adults above 12, take 2 sachets daily. (Note: It is not recommended to be mixed with warm water as this will destroy nutrients.)
My style:
Mix the contents of the sachet in 100ml room temperature water in a shaker. Shake a few times until liquid is fully mixed with powder. I add 50ml of cold water to make it yummier for my son to drink.

THE PACKAGING
Elianto Colla White beverage mix comes in individual sachets neatly arranged in a box. The sachets make it convenient for travel and easy to use. You can easily tuck it in your handbag to drink within the day. I just hope it came with a small cut on 1 side for easier tearing instead of using scissors to cut it open.
The ingredients and contents are well indicated on the box. But for the benefit of more consumers, I think it would be great if the benefits of the main ingredients are indicated: glutathione, collagen, olive extract and hyaluronic acid. I’ve managed skincare brands and supplements before so I am familiar but some consumers may be quite new to these, especially glutathione.
HOW DO YOU DRINK IT?
Instruction on the box says: Dissolve in 200ml water (room temperature) and top up with ice cube. BUT I find it quite hard to dissolve it simply in water by normal stirring. During my first few days, I followed the procedure of dissolving it in water.

I received a tip to use a shaker instead and it worked better. So I recommend that you pour the contents of the sachet into 100ml of room temperature water. Shake the shaker for maybe 20 times then add another 100ml of cold water, if you like cold drinks like me. You have the option to shake it in 200ml of water then add ice cubes but I find it troublesome so I just do a simpler way.

You only need to take it ONCE a day, which is great, an hour before or after meal. 
THE TASTE
The taste is good, very citrusy and easy to drink. It’s just like any fruit juice and it’s good that this beverage mix doesn’t have any medicinal taste to it. It comes as very natural.
THE RESULT
I do notice a wonderful change on my complexion. My skin is clearer and brighter. It feels healthier and firmer. Another great thing is that my skin is more balanced; I don’t have oiliness on areas where I used to continuously remove excess shine and retouch my foundation. My skin looks and feels better.

Staying active can be as easy as walking up the stairs instead of taking the lift. Yeah, I know; if your condo unit is at the 10th floor then it’s not very easy. I was with the “Stay Active” group and an instructor gave us tips on how to perform quick routines, especially when we’re at work. Those were simple neck, shoulder, hip and leg exercises. It’s amazing how small things can make a big difference.

At home, maybe you can start with some short exercises every few days if daily is too much for you. Pick up the pace then you’ll eventually have more regular time doing it!

1) At what age did you decide to set up your own business? How long did it take for you to create Be Green Bebe?
I have always wanted to start my own business and after leaving my full-time job in finance, I felt ready to try something different. The concept behind Be Green Bebe took a year to conceive. I liked the idea of a multi-label boutique as I like mixing and matching fashion and during that period, I attended numerous children’s trade fairs abroad, met with suppliers and worked closely with a designer to develop our brand and website.
2) What or who was your inspiration in launching an eco-friendly clothing shop?
When my goddaughter was born, I spent plenty of time hunting down the most adorable outfits and accessories. Along the way I discovered organic children’s clothing and learnt about its benefits, in that it is extremely soft, breathable and hypoallergenic. I found that there is a lack of chic and organic children’s wear easily accessible to all in one place and hence started my search for the best in kids fashion that is both sustainable and stylish, whilst remaining practical and most importantly, comfortable.
3) Do you travel a lot? Do you personally inspect the clothes or do you have a team who closely works with you?
I do like to personally inspect the clothes and have handpicked the entire first collection. Going forward, this may not always be practical to travel to the US and UK but I have no doubt as to the quality of the clothing as I choose the designs myself and they are all certified organic.

4) Do you also advocate for organic diet?
I was brought up in a household that advocates a healthy lifestyle, of which an organic diet is a huge part. It isn’t always realistic or easy to eat organic all the time, but a little organic is better than none at all!
5) What challenges are you facing now in promoting Be Green Bebe to Malaysians? Are they easily convinced of organic clothing?
The response from Malaysian mums has been great so far. Organic clothing is much more popular in the West than in Asia but it is interesting to see that many young mothers are increasingly aware of organic products and are pleasantly surprised to find out that organic clothing actually offer comparable prices and value to that of the non-organic variety.

6) Are most of your customers local? Expatriates? Celebrities?
Most of my customers are local Malaysian mums.
7) What can we expect from Be Green Bebe in the next few months? Will there be new products, styles, etc.?
I want to grow Be Green Bebe into an iconic lifestyle brand, which is the go-to destination for stylish organic clothing and accessories in Asia.  We are bringing in new products all the time, and with Spring/Summer 2014 being shipped this January, there are lots to look forward to!
