Magic Eye 3D Museum in Thailand

Visiting Amazing Thailand soon? You gotta check out the 3D museum in Hatyai!

My husband, my son and I had a holiday trip to HatYai, Thailand last month. Aside from seeing the elephants, we also took the time to visit the Magic Eye 3D Museum. Although it is a bit far from our hotel in HatYai, my husband rented a car and driver to bring us to the place. We heard that it’s really nice to visit this museum so we might as well check it out while we’re there.

The staff there were very friendly, I guess most places in HatYai have very friendly customer service staff. Food and drinks, by the way, are not allowed inside the hall so they politely asked us to leave them at the guest services. You also cannot wear shoes inside, of course, to help preserve the beauty and quality of the paintings as most of them are also on the floor. White socks are provided for customers.

If you’re planning to visit the museum, bring your fully charged camera phones, digital cameras or DSLRs. The museum is filled with amazing paintings and visuals, you will definitely spend an hour at least of taking photos at different angles. I was disappointed that I didn’t bring my DSLR with me so I had to make use of my phone. It’s not bad but I knew I could have done better, darn!

It was fun and, most important is, my son had a great time! So if you’re dropping by HatYai one of these days, be sure to include the Magic Eye Museum in your itinerary. It is important for our skin to stay hydrated, especially once you reach my age of 30+. How is it packed:

I’m in love with this matte blue box, combined with silver accents on some texts and borders. It just feels and looks so elegant, like a true star product. I’m already excited to continue using ThirstyMud as part of my weekly routine. This can be used 2-3 times a week or as needed (if you have an event, wedding or important function to attend). I’d also try leaving it overnight and see the difference it can do to my skin.

Entering Sephora, I was welcomed by this catchy ‘Walk of Fame’ or should I say ‘Walk of Glam’. Several blue, glimmering stars styled in Hollywood Walk of Fame adorned the floor. It was out of passion for photography and interest in the subject that I participated in this contest. And guess what? I was one of the lucky winners.

In April, so that was around 3 months ago, Shizens proudly launched their Stand Firm Stay Firm photography campaign. The “Stand Firm Stay Firm” campaign aims to display the outer beauty of women while also revealing their inner strength, which serves as an encouragement for them to stand firm within our society. It was an online contest where customers and fans stood a chance to win prizes by expressing their creativity through photos that display inner strength and outer beauty.

Hundreds of people submitted entries for the campaign, both for mobile photography and photography enthusiasts. And in the end, 10 finalists were selected/voted from each category that vied for grand and consolation prizes. I was so happy when I learned that I was one of the 10 finalists under photography enthusiasts.

My entry was this photo of myself with my precious son. I had a great time taking this photo with him, as he was very participative and supportive of what I was asking him to do.

Shizens announced the final results early in June and I was one of them! My photo landed as First Runner Up. Wee!

Although I normally don’t attend events that fall on a weekday due to work priorities, I took the time off to witness what I would call ‘the renaissance of Givenchy in the beauty line’. We haven’t heard of the brand for quite some time and to top it all, the event was for the launch of a cosmetic item. I knew this had to be something great, and I had to make time for it.

Miss World Malaysia 2010 and TV personality, Nadia Heng, hosted the Givenchy event on 30th April at Image Rom, Sunway Damansara Technology Park. Nadia excitedly unveiled the new revolutionary products from Givenchy.

Make Up For Ever HD Make Up Workshop

When fellow beauty addict Ashley Yeen announced that she collaborated with Make Up For Ever to conduct a workshop on high definition make up, I knew I had to join. I’ve certainly encountered MUFE long time ago but I haven’t tried any of the products. I guess I just didn’t have the chance or the time to really explore it before.

So it was good news when Ashley invited me to this workshop with MUFE! The agenda: High Definition Make Up. Wait, by the way, what is high-definition makeup? You guessed it right; HD makeup has something to do with video and photography. I’m sure you’ve encountered the term ‘HDTV’ or high-definition television. This type basically project images that are several times better in resolution than normal or standard types of TV. Same for photography, we have high-resolution images captured by DSLR and even point-and-shoot cameras.

And what do all these have to do with makeup? Simple. When these latest technology video cams or cameras capture your face, your makeup should be in ‘high-definition’ technique, especially if you want to hide some flaws. Professional make-up artists have undergone intensive training to perfect this high-definition technique but they also use good makeup products and tools to achieve that HD look. When the makeup technique is not HD-ready, a person’s face may reveal imperfections on video or on photos, which, of course, is something we ladies don’t like. Moreover, some make-up products or techniques make the face look overly done, unnatural and even older.

But HD makeup is not just for videos and photos. It is a great makeup technique for daily wear, especially if you have to face a lot of people. Having an HD-ready face is close-up ready, meaning your face will look great and flawless when people see you face-to-face. HD makeup effectively conceals imperfections without the look of thick application. Like what I said on Ashley’s post, HD means “Head-turning Diva”, and it was such a delight to attend a short workshop to learn how to achieve this look with Make Up For Ever.

Arriving a few minutes before the starting time, I had sufficient shooting time to explore Make Up For Ever’s store in Sephora Starhill. The façade is a welcoming display of cosmetics beautifully displayed on predominantly black walls and fixtures. The focus collection was HD high-definition makeup such as HD primer, HR elixir, HD foundation, HD cream blusher and HD concealer.

The class started with a short introduction and thank you remarks from Ashley. Our workshop make-up artist for the day was Angeline while the workshop model was a lovely gal named Izza. Here, Angeline started removing Izza’s make-up so we can see the full effect of HD make-up before and after application.

As this was a workshop, we were taught how to do it on ourselves. Here are some of the MUFE products that we used that day:

I really loved that Mist and Fix because it makes your makeup look even better by adding some glow or radiance while making it last longer. For someone like me who only applies full make-up in the morning and needs it to last the whole day at work, Mist and Fix is a great make-up companion. We started by removing our own make-up (I used So Divine Cleansing Cream) then applied the HD primer blended with HD elixir, followed by the HD foundation. We also applied the HD concealer under the eyes. All these products blended smoothly and evenly on the skin. The textures were great, which allowed easy application on the face.

Here’s JL Buzzbee, whom I finally met in person that day, being assisted by pretty make-up artist of MUFE, Shiory.

Angeline also recommended using the HD high-definition concealer under the eyes to conceal fine lines and other imperfections prior to eye make-up.

The effect of the first few products was very flattering on Izza’s face. She’s lovely to begin with, by the way, but the effect of HD primer + HD elixir + HD foundation + HD concealer made her face look flawless. Compare the right to the left side and you can tell how HD make-up made a wonderful transformation in concealing imperfections without the look of overly done make-up.

The workshop continued with application of eye make-up, HD foundation powder, lip color and other make-up items. See all of us with HD-ready faces and smiles here, together with Shiory and Angeline of MUFE. Can you spot Izza in her full HD make-up look?

While the other gals continued with their HD make-up sessions, I continued to explore the store and their products. MUFE has really nice make-up collections. Oh, please, don’t tempt me to overspend this month!

I loved the makeover tables at MUFE. Each table has a face drawing like this, showing a list of products used and by which make-up artist. Isn’t that cute and also helpful?

I was excited to participate in this online photography contest. It wasn’t just any ordinary competition; it is aimed at empowering and honoring women. The subject of the photo to be submitted is quite simple: share your best shots that tell the story of “Stand firm, stay firm.”

Relating this subject to my own life, I believe that my strength as a woman lies on my mission to nurture my son’s life. I guess I wouldn’t be wrong in saying that a lot of mothers discover strengths that they didn’t know they were capable of until they give birth to another life. My son has been my source of inner strength and through the years, I know I keep getting stronger because of my desire to protect him, to cherish him and to give him the best possible life I can offer.

When I encountered this competition from Shizens, I already knew what I wanted to capture — my son and me during one of our happiest times, those times when we just don’t care about anything else and just caught up in our moment. It wasn’t easy capturing a 4-year-old. But with a tripod and the camera’s self-timer, I was able to take a few shots.

This was my best shot and was my one and only entry to the competition:

The Judges

Photography is a form of art. It is, indeed, very subjective. How we see or “feel” about a photograph is the measure of its artistic affect, and different people may perceive or judge a photograph differently.

Despite all these disclaimers, there are many well-established rules and guidelines in the world of photography about what goes into a good photo and what does not. We are taking those guidelines into consideration when judging the photo contest. Of course, these are only guidelines. We believe that a good photo should speak for itself and shine through all the obstacles. It should convey the personality of the photographer just as strongly as in a painting. Don’t you think?

To help judging and selecting the potential best photos from among the many excellent entries, we are pleased to have invited Kenny Chai, an award-winning international photographer, to lead the panel of judges. With more than 15 years of experience in the trade, Kenny honed his skills in Malaysia working beside some of the best studios. He has worked on numerous projects with Ogilvy, Publicis, DDB, Lowe and Saatchi. He is currently based in Beijing China and a specialist in commercial photography, the Chief Photographer and Director of Grass Photography Studio.
