Estēe Lauder Advanced Night Repair – Change your Skin every Night

This is one of those very rare instances that I’d have to say that advertising convinced me to purchase a beauty product. I’m the type who would normally go around the beauty shop, try items here and there then only make the decision to buy. But for once, after seeing ads continuously, reading good reviews online, I decided to finally give this popular product a shot.

A few years back when I was working for a company located along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, I walk around Sogo department store from Mondays to Fridays during lunchtime. It’s actually quite nice to shop at Sogo because they have practically everything that I look for: baby clothes, baby shoes, milk powder, office clothes, shoes, cosmetics, stationeries and more. Sogo probably has the widest baby and kids section in 1 floor within Kuala Lumpur.

And so one Saturday afternoon, I went shopping again at Sogo KL. I excitedly visited the Estee Lauder counter and checked out the available gift sets. What did I want to get? The Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II and a night cream for my mother-in-law. I’ve been seeing ads of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair for years. So when aging seemed to catch up with my skin (fine lines, uneven skin tone, noticeable pores, dull appearance, roughness), I knew I had to crank up my skincare regimen with a powerful anti-aging serum. And what do you know; those 2-page spreads on magazines caught me. I also did some research online from customers/ bloggers who have tried the product and, yes, I’m convinced.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

I’ve been using the product for 3 weeks now and I’m very happy with the improvement on my skin. It’s true that I wake up to better skin every morning. The most evident change I’ve felt was the ease of makeup application on a smoother skin. I used to apply several layers of cosmetics on my face before going to work but now I can get away with skipping one or two when I’m in a hurry. I even apply thinner liquid foundation because of more even skin tone.

I guess one of the great things with this product is that I only need to apply it in the evening and yet I get wonderful benefits. Like what the brand says, this is ‘The power to change your skin – every night!” I only use between 2-3 drops all over my face, using my middle and ring fingers, and I’m sure this 50ml will last for more than 3 months.

The power to change your skin — every night!

The science behind this popular product is based on 2 discoveries: 1) purification and, 2) Lack of Sleep Accelerates the Look of Aging.

What the brand says:

Estee Lauder scientists were among the first to understand a critical nighttime cellular repair, Catabolysis, and determined that this natural purification process peaks in cells at night and is pivotal to skin’s natural repair. This led our scientists to develop a breakthrough technology, ChronoluxCBTM.

Skin renewal expert Estee Lauder collaborated with sleep experts from Case Western Reserve University, a world-renowned centre of excellence in dermatological research. The result was lack of sleep not only causes visible signs of aging but also affects skin’s natural repair processes. The study showed that, for the first time, that lack of sleep can accelerate visible signs of skin aging.

Poor quality of sleep is associated with:

  • Acceleration of fine lines
  • Increased vulnerability to dryness and dehydration
  • Uneven skin tone

With Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, say good night to:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Tired looking skin
  • Loss of elasticity
  • Rough, dry skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dullness

And say good morning to:

  • Firmness and elasticity
  • Youthful-looking skin
  • Translucent radiance
  • Even skin toneHydrated skin
  • Fine softness
  • Suppleness

I am guilty of not having sufficient sleep almost daily. I sleep past midnight and get up at 6:15am. Not easy to sleep early when your child sleeps late. But with the product claims of this Estee Lauder product, I am hopefully on my way to continuously improving skin.

I also got the Estee Lauder Nutritious Night Vita-Mineral Intense Nourishing Crème for my mother-in-law. I truly believe that everyone should recharge their evening skincare regimen since this is the time when our skin rejuvenates itself.

Estee Lauder Nutritious Night Creme

Estee Lauder was selling the Advanced Night Repair Serum and Nutritious Night Crème in a set that comes with free 4 minis. So here’s all that I got that day:

These are the 4 minis in the set – 30ml Nutritious Foam Cleanser, 30ml Nutritious Energy Lotion, 15ml Nutritious Day Cream and 5ml Advanced Night Repair Eye.  Great value gifts with the set!

My 8 De-stressing Habits that Keep Me Sane and Happy

One of the important things I learned in life is that there will be a cause of stress everywhere we go, in whatever we do, whether at work, at home, at the road…wherever, whenever. To wish for a stress-free life is just wishing not to live at all. What I’ve accepted is that I either change the way I look at the things around me or my life will be unhappy and stressful.

I’m actually quite surprised to meet people who just choose to focus on the bad and stressful things rather than counting the good things they have. Work will always be tough and full of challenges especially when you’ve reached a certain level of position where you hold heavy responsibilities. I believe that there’s always a choice for everyone. If you don’t want to accept this set of duties that also come with some causes for stress, then there’s a choice for you to either leave that job or take a lower position. But complaining about everything to your colleagues or friends or relatives can become pointless if it becomes a daily habit.

The world wouldn’t change for us; we can only change ourselves. I choose to be in control of my life as much as I can, and I don’t want stress to be on top of my daily life. I’ve had my share of stressful years and I’ve realized that it’s just impossible to be happy unless I change or improve myself. So I am pleased to share 8 useful habits that I’ve developed through the years. Hope these can be useful to people facing a stressful life, especially working mothers like me:

1. Read.

Reading is a great way to take my mind off from the daily challenges of work while at the same time, gives me additional knowledge that I won’t get from just spending more time on ‘stressing’ myself about work.  I cannot imagine what my life would be if I don’t spend time reading. It doesn’t have to be reading novels or thick books at all. I regularly read Female magazine and Women’s Weekly where I get the latest beauty and fashion buzz. Of course, I don’t want to miss the celebrity articles and health news. And although I am not in the beauty industry anymore, I am still inclined (or hooked) to finding out the latest beauty products and reviews.

I also read Archie books! Well, you might say, ‘grow up!’ but Archie comic books are one of those classics that you won’t mind reading. When I was younger, reading an Archie comic book is already a luxury since I cannot afford to buy one. I have these 2 thick books recently sent to me by my sweet sister from Philippines.

I read books as well. I was a total bookworm since I was 8. I used to borrow several books from the library and I’m probably the only kid who manages to fill-up the entire library card in a few months. I read, read, and read everyday. So here are some of my books at the moment: Between You and I (something that I picked up for only RM15!), Drink Me (a wine book), and the Wrinkle Cure (by Dr. Nicholas Perricone who has a superb line of beauty products).

2. Take care of your skin.

I’m surprised when people keep saying that they don’t have time to apply beauty products everyday. Taking care of your skin not only serves the purpose of maintaining its health but also a great way to de-stress. Spending a few minutes in front of the mirror just applying toner, serum and moisturizer gives you time to think of yourself and off from those stressful issues.

3. Blog.

I’m not talking about becoming a full-time blogger. If you are someone with a lot of things going on in your mind, having an outlet such as a blog can prove to be fun and relaxing. Try doing it for fun and share your thoughts about the things you enjoy, your experiences and maybe your knowledge. You’ll be surprised at how it can make you feel better and you’ll even meet wonderful people who blog as well and be a part of a social community.

4. Take photos.

You don’t have to be a professional photographer. Just simple ways such as using your phone or normal digital camera will do. Paying attention to moments captured with your camera is a great way to learn how to appreciate time, colors and more. How do you feel when you look at your past photos? Those throw-back Thursday pictures? Don’t they remind you of happier days? That silly hair or silly get-up?

5. Spend quality time with your children.

Or with your nieces, nephews if you don’t have your own child yet. Taking time to color those drawings, learning letters, numbers, painting will give you a sense of happiness that will ease your mind. Those people who spend time with their relatives’ children and take care of them amaze me. You will notice that they tend to be warmer, kind and patient in the working environment. So go ahead and try to spend time with a kid or two. You’ll be surprised at how long your patience can be extended!

6. Play games.

Maybe some of you may find it silly but having a few games on your phone can be helpful as long as you’re not addicted to it and you don’t make your daily life revolve around those farms, candies or whatnot. When you find yourself angry or frustrated at work or anywhere (this does not apply to driving frustration, by the way), take a few minutes during your break to play a game.

7. Exercise.

This is great for health AND de-stressing. I’ve been engaged with a quick daily workout for several weeks now and I found out that it’s liberating! Start with something simple if you haven’t done exercising for quite some time. I downloaded this app called the 7-minute workout and it does wonders. You only need 7 minutes daily, follow the steps and timing from the app and you’re done! Trust me, this can get you sweating within those few minutes. And my tummy has become firmer in just 2 weeks.

And if you are not ready to do daily exercise, try doing something every weekend. Maybe running every Saturday morning or evening? Give it a try. It gives you good time to clear your mind.

8. Accept that life is not fair.

At a young age, I’ve learned that life is simply not fair. The moment you are born, you will have certain sets of privileges or difficulties already laid out for you. You will have certain benefits and challenges that will be different from another person. Or if you are very unlucky, you will be struggling from the moment you were born. This is the way life is. I don’t believe that life will ever be fair. Somewhere, somehow, there are people having a harder or better life than us. Don’t compare or ask why some have so much money or why that person gets a higher pay than you do. Do not expect that your desires will be laid out in front of you to pick. Do not think that just because people have more money means that they don’t have problems. Each person has his own challenges to face and accomplish.

Some people also think that their bosses have an easier life than them and tend to do self-pity, and this leads to stress. For me, I don’t think that bosses have easier lives. In fact, they are carrying a very heavy burden especially if they own the business. Imagine the daily pressure of making the business profitable enough to pay for our salaries? Who gets cursing from the top management or directors when objectives are not achieved? Is it you or your boss? Some employees don’t look at it this way, leading to unhappy work life. We all have our own challenges, whether you are an employee, a business owner, CEO, or a housewife. I’ve accepted that life is not fair which means I have to depend on myself to get the things I want in life. This thought has liberated me at a young age and has since worked hard for the achievement I desire. And it has been really great! What better sense of fulfillment than what you achieved on your own, right? Life is not fair but life can be good!

Lancome Teint Miracle – Weightless Foundation

Liquid foundations have been my best friends to maintain a presentable look when I go out. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t use one ever since I became conscious of my huge pores (that’s around 11 years ago!).

I was using a Japanese brand before but I wanted to try something that feels lighter, something that’s more like a second skin. During my usual trip to Sephora, I decided to grab Lancome Teint Miracle.

What caught my attention was the front of the box that said “Natural Light Creator, Bare Skin Perfection”. If you’ve read my other beauty stuff blogs then I’ll guess you’d know that packaging and labels play an important role in my purchasing decision. It just makes sense to judge a product by what information and effort a brand puts on its labels.

Lancome Teint Miracle: Natural Light Creator, Bare Skin Perfection

Lancome Teint Miracle is oil-free, non-comedogenic and also has SPF 16, might seem low if you’re exposed outdoors several times in a day but I normally apply a moisturizer with higher SPF before my foundation so this is fine. A Sephora beauty advisor assisted me to try the product on my neck and helped me picked the right shade.

The problem with some of the foundations that I’ve used before is the heavy feeling during midday. But this foundation was weightless! It doesn’t feel like  the usual makeup foundation. It feels thin and light on the skin yet it gives good coverage over my pores and some dark spots.

I find the packaging great and easy to use. The pump only needs light effort to use and has very good control on dispensing sufficient amount of the product. I love that it’s in a transparent glass where I can easily see how much is left. The name ‘TEINT MIRACLE’ and the flower logo icon are embossed in silver color which make it look even more impressive and simply pretty in the vanity cabinet.

Lancome Teint Miracle with silver box

I’ve been using it for 3 weeks now and I just love the effect on my skin. I even skip my Benefit Porefessional sometimes when I’m rushing and my pores don’t appear huge anymore. I also noticed that when I get back home from work, my face still looks presentable — even tone, no redness, no huge pores visible, even with just one-time retouching with face powder throughout the day.

Liquid foundation designed for Asian skins

How to apply with fingers: Shake well before use. Pump a small pea size of the product, either to your hand or palm, whichever suits you but I normally pump to my hand. Dab dots on several areas of your face: nose, cheeks forehead, chin, temples, around the borders of your face. Using your third and fourth fingers, gently spread from your nose area then going outwards to your cheeks, chin and forehead. Let it set for a few minutes before you apply other creams or powders on top of it. Give it maybe 3 to 5 minutes.

Of course, this is my own technique. Some might choose to apply using other ways like maybe using a foundation brush or the entire palm instead of fingers. Feel free to use the technique you feel most comfortable with.

What Lancome Teint Miracle box says:

L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening Moisture Cream

Recently, I’ve been very much concerned with the uneven skin tone on my face. I used to be so focused on treating my pore problems that I seemed to overlook that aging is catching up with my skin, too.

I decided to try L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening Moisture Cream, quite by chance. I was buying a gift set for a friend’s birthday and I was convinced by the skin consultant to give this a try.

It’s another pretty product to add to my vanity cabinet. I like to try cosmetics that also pay enough attention to good and beautiful packaging. After all, these products are supposed to be for beauty, right? Of course, the brand and product features and benefits are the key points but great packaging simply makes it more appealing and trustworthy.

L’Occitane’s Immortelle Brightening Moisture Cream claims to smoothe, even and lighten the skin.

What the packaging says:

Immortelle is a flower with exceptional longevity: it never fades, even when picked. Its organic essential oil is rich in active molecules with unique anti-aging results. Bellis perennis, the daisy flower, offers a brightening extract that contributes to regulate melanin production. The Brightening Moisture Cream offers triple action benefits to correct wrinkles, make the complexion more even-toned and brighter.

The cream jar is sealed when you remove the cap to ensure that it doesn’t oxidize fast before opening. And since this is a nature-based product, it has  short life upon opening at 6 months. Nothing bad about it as skincare products are completely consumed within 3-4 months at average.

I also liked that L’Occitane has a product insert provided inside the box. It’s good to know more about the product that I’m using on my face in more detail aside from the packaging print.

The texture of this cream is very good. Not oily, not too creamy, easy to spread and quickly absorbed by the skin. One of my concerns with a lot of anti-aging creams is that it can sometimes be too creamy or thick for my skin. But this L’Occitane cream is just right. The scent is beautiful with floral extracts which is just nice to sleep in when used in the evening. I used to have skin reactions from creams with floral scent, especially rose, but this one didn’t do my skin harm (thank goodness!).

I’ve been using this cream every night for a week now and I can say that I wake up to smooth and glowing skin every morning. This cream is supposed to be for day and night use but I’m currently alternating it with another product that I have yet to finish.

I love the fresh and light formula of L’Occitane Immortelle Brightening Moisture Cream, and I love the appearance of my skin every morning. I’ve only been using it once a day and I believe I’ll see even better results once I use it twice a day!

Reduce Pores Instantly with Benefit POREfessional!

Pores, pores, pores all over my nose, chin and cheeks have always haunted me. I used to have a lot of pimples when I was younger. Pimples on my nose, cheeks, chin and other spots on the face. Did you ever have those irritating pimples on the edge of your nose that really make you look funny? Or just under your nostrils and it’s so painful every time you wipe your nose? And the worst thing is you’re having running nose then you have one pimple right on your nostril? Agh, I hated those days. I don’t squeeze or pop them myself but I still developed big pores over time.

Although I am using skincare products that address pore concerns, I still require an instant solution that will hide or, at least, reduce the appearance of my pores. Foundation does great magic but it’s just not enough especially for the size of the pores on my nose (gasp!). Thank goodness for skincare science and we now have access to quick-fix stuff.

I’ve always been intrigued by Benefit’s line of products but so far, I haven’t really bought or tried any item. The product names are very clever and witty while the packaging design is just catchy. Have you seen Hello Flawless, Confessions of a Concealaholic, Benetint, Posietint, Some Kind-a Gorgeous, Stay Don’t Stray, Ooh La Lift or That Gal? The names don’t immediately tell you what it is but makes you curious enough to read on, don’t they?

I haven’t tried Benefit products before but, well, there’s always a first time. The POREfessional has always caught my attention and when I finally finished my other pore quick-fix, I decided to give this a try.

Benefit POREfessional

The caption on the box tab caught me: QUICKLY minimize the appearance of PORES

The POREfessional PRO balm to minimize the appearance of pores

I liked that the tube has a seal which makes the product less prone to oxidation before you actually use it.

It’s also a thoughtful idea from Benefit to place a product insert with this item. It shows techniques on how to use it, even outlines the areas for retouching over makeup. PORES…now you see ’em, now you don’t!

I only need a little amount on each pore-prone area on my face. I apply it on my nose, cheeks, chin and forehead before my foundation. It does wonders to make my skin look even, less oily and, of course, almost pore-free.

The texture is very smooth and silky, very lightweight and works well as a makeup primer. It makes my foundation glide even more smoothly and stay longer throughout the day. I tend to have some oily spots around my face but with the POREfessional, my foundation doesn’t clump at all.

I’ve been using it for 5 days now and I’m lovin’ it! I made the right decision to switch from the other brand which happens to be a bit more expensive.

Price: RM115 for 22ml

Where to buy: Sephora, Metrojaya Mid Valley, Robinsons The Gardens, selected Parkson stores, Benefit boutique and counters

What the box says:Apply this silky, lightweight formula to minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin. To use under makeup:Apply to moisturized skin to help makeup stay put. Focus on problem areas and blend with fingertips. To use over makeup:Pat on lightly over makeup and blend.

Tried & Tested: Lancome Genifique Yeux for Fine Lines, Dark Under Eye

I’ve recently been in a panic state due to formation of fine lines around my eyes. I guess stress over the past few years at work and, of course, age have caught up with my skin. So I looked for an eye cream that will hopefully solve my fine lines.

I decided to try Lancome’s Genifique Yeux Yout Activating Eye Concentrate.

This eye concentrate is non-greasy, non-sticky and feels very light on the eye area. Like some of you, I am also worried about eye creams causing milia or oil seeds. I’ve developed 2 before, around the eye area, so I’ve gotten very cautious about using eye creams.

Fortunately, Lancome’s Genifique Yeux is not too thick or rich for my skin. I have combination oily/ dry skin and my eye area tends to be oily during the day. But Lancome Genifique Yeux actually leaves a matte finish and makes the eye area feel velvety. Good match for my skin. Another plus for this product is that it’s suitable for contact lens wearers.

The scent is very light which I also like. Some eye creams tend to have a stronger scent which I am not very comfortable with. Knowing that the skin around the eye is too fragile, I also wouldn’t want a product with strong scent to be applied there.

Lancome Genifique Yeux comes in a glass jar with a nice silver cover, topped with Lancome’s signature floral icon. The box is also elegant with embossed silver text and the embossed floral icon in silver print as well. Yah, I kinda have a weakness for nice packaging.

And so I tried and tested this eye concentrate. I’m supposed to apply it twice a day but mornings are too tight for me as I have to quickly apply my sunscreen and do my makeup then get my son ready for school. For 2 weeks, I’ve only been applying it at night. And yet, I’ve seen good results! Look closely at the fine lines under my eye (I hope my photos show clearly).

                             BEFORE                                                                    AFTER
On the left, you can see there are several lines, the texture looks uneven and my under eye is a bit dark. On the right, there are less lines, the texture has improved and my under eye is brighter. Eew, my cheek pores are so visible here.

Here are the identified areas for easier reference…

Before & After 2 weeks using Lancome Genifique Yeux Youth Activating Eye Concentrate
Amazing. And this is just based on once a day application. I have now started to apply it twice a day (when I can) to make the results even better and prevent more lines from forming.

What the box says:
Youth Activating Eye Concentrate
Major scientific discovery: Skin’s youth is characterized by the presence of certain proteins on the skin’s surface which are the result of gene expression. For the 1st time from Lancome: Genfiqiue helps promote an environment more characteristic of youthful skin to leave skin looking younger. This gel texture helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and under-eye bags. The eye contours appear brighter and radiant, as if infused with life.
Tested under dermatological and opthalmological control
Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers

Make your Make-Up Last Longer with Urban Decay’s MakeUp Setting Spray

Working women like me, and maybe more ladies out there who are out-of-the-house for more than 8 hours a day, face the challenge of maintaining makeup as long as necessary. Occasional touch-ups for face powder is fine but who has time to retouch full face foundation or keep looking at the mirror to check if the T-zone is getting too shiny? I’m normally busy at work and I only have time to retouch my powder after lunch and that’s it. So the quest to lengthen makeup life on my face brought me to Sephora. And I was not disappointed.

Urban Decay’s All Nighter MakeUp Setting Spray was attractive and catchy to my eye with its simple white and purple packaging (I love purple, by the way). The product name says it all and the phrase “All Nighter” is just clever. For RM49/ 30ml, the item seemed worth a try. Oil-free, paraben-free and temperature control technology were the highlighted points on the box.

The bottle comes in dual cap; I’m not quite sure, though, why. Maybe to give you an option to use the smaller cap if the purple cap makes it big to fit in a small cosmetic bag. But then again why not just make a small purple cap? Or maybe this is to prevent leaking when you put it in your bag on-the-go? Nevertheless, I love the packaging color scheme. The box and bottle are both in matte finish. It feels and looks good now but I foresee that the bottle will have that brownish, dirty look after some time since matte finish tends to absorb dirt more. Anyway, I just simply keep it unexposed to dust and element by placing it inside my makeup kit in a drawer.

I’ve been using UD MakeUp Setting Spray for 3 weeks now and I’m delighted by the results. From morning at around 7:30am (this is the time when my makeup’s done before I wake my son up for school) until evening at around 8 or 9:00pm, my makeup still looks great. Before, my foundation used to be blotchy and faded out by 3 or 4pm. But with this Makeup Setting Spray, my face makeup is still in place when I get home!

It’s quite easy to use: Simply shake it well, hold the bottle around 8 to 10 inches away and mist your face 2 to 4 times in an ‘X’ and ‘T’ formation. And, voila! Your makeup is ready to stay all day and night! Reminder, close your eyes and purse your lips before spraying.

This product is also very travel-friendly at this size. It’s light and slim which can easily fit into a cosmetic bag snugly.

What the box says:

IN A 7 DAY CLINICAL STUDY OF ALL NIGHTER
  • 78% of participants said ALL NIGHTER helped their makeup last for 16 hours
  • Over 80% said their makeup not only looked better, it stayed on better (even in the T-zone) without settling into fine lines
  • Whether they had combination, oily or dry skin, 88% or more said ALL NIGHTER was the best product to help their makeup last

TALIKA Photo-Beauty Therapy: Youth through Light Innovation

The first TALIKA product that I fell in love with 2 years back was the Gentle Eye Cleanser. That was also when I started using contact lenses and this Talika product was probably one among few eye care products in the market that specifically address sensitivity of contact lens wearers. It contains rosewater so it also has that lovely scent. This ingredient is actually meant to tighten the skin around the eyes while serving as a mild astringent. Although it doesn’t remove waterproof makeup, it is a great 2nd step for eye cleansing. I would normally use cleansing oil then use Talika Gentle Eye Cleanser afterwards.

Photo from web

A few months ago, Talika launched a skincare collection: Photo-Beauty Therapy. I was introduced to these 3 amazing products: Light Essence Cellular Activator Photo-Beauty Therapy, Anti-Aging Cream Photo-Beauty Therapy and Brightening Serum Photo-Beauty Therapy.

These 3 look good and elegant together, don’t they?

The Light Essence caught my attention immediately…

Talika indicates that THE LIGHT ESSENCE…
acts like a correction curve, an “equalizer”, which takes just a few seconds to reset all “cell counters” to zero! Meanwhile, it boosts the youthfulness process in your epidermis.
The cell recovers its “original” potential, as a result skin is able to receive and transmit the benefits of daily skincare LIKE NEVER BEFORE.

Benefits:
Transforms light into cellular energy for a global anti-ageing action. (Photo-Beauty Enzyme®)
Helps to brighten the complexion and diminish the intensity of dark spots.
Helps regenerate and protect the skin’s DNA. (Photo-Beauty Enzyme®)
Hydrates, relieves discomfort. (hyaluronic acid, gentle fruit acids, rose water and vegetal glycerin)

The new Talika skincare also has an Anti-Aging Cream, a delightfully-surprising addition to the brand as I’ve known Talika for light-inspired products. Having a Talika anti-aging item is truly a surprise and revolution in its technology.

Talika indicates that the ANTI-AGING Cream…
gives skin a new youthfulness thanks to the synergy of the PBE and anti-wrinkle, firming, energising and repairing active ingredients with recognised efficacy.

After 14 days, +19,9% collagen*.
After 4 weeks, the signs of ageing are visibly reduced.

Benefits:
Transforms light into cellular energy (Photo-Beauty Enzyme®)
Helps regenerate and protect the skin’s DNA (Photo-Beauty Enzyme®)
Anti-wrinkle and firming action (adenosine, walnut seed, soya beans)
Intensively nourishes, moisturises and repairs the epidermis (shea butter and vegetal glycerin)

I’m sure you’ve seen so many brightening serums in the market, well, so have I. But what makes this Talika brightening serum interesting is the PBE or Photo-Beauty Enzyme, a unique component in this line of Talika products which has the ability to transform light into derma-repairing energy.

The Talika Brightening Serum is…
Prodigious, rich in PBE and brightening active ingredients, it targets melanocytes specifically to reduce the intensity of dark spots and brightens the complexion within four weeks.
After 14 days, +79,6% non-pigmented cells*.

Benefits:
Transforms light into cellular energy (Photo-Beauty Enzyme®)
Helps regenerate and protect the skin’s DNA (Photo-Beauty Enzyme®)
Lightens the complexion, anti-dark spot action (niacinamide, zinc)
Moisturizes (vegetal glycerin)

Reduce my dark spots in 14 days?! That’s worth a try. I wasn’t so concerned with dark spots before. But with a few years of driving around in this hot weather without my usual super-black tint, I guess sunscreen is not enough and I’ve developed spots on my cheeks!

I think this is a great addition to Talika’s line-up of products. I’ve known Talika as an expert for eye care, lash care and revolutionary skincare devices such as the LIGHT DUO and the CREAM BOOSTER. And now that Talika has launched a skincare line, the devices will have the right Talika products to complement and provide a complete regimen for our skincare requirements, whether it’s for anti-aging or brightening or both.

And look, my Lancome Genifique Eye Cream fits right in with the Talika collection…

Excited to try and test this Talika Photo-Beauty Therapy collection soon!

Crabtree & Evelyn Iris Triple Milled Soap: An Enchanting Body Treat!

For so many years now, I’ve always been using shower gels or liquid bath soaps for cleansing.  I love using them on a bath sponge and see how much foam they make. And more often than not, shower gels also have lovelier scents versus ordinary bath soaps…until I tried Crabtree & Evelyn’s Iris Triple Milled Soap.

I wouldn’t have bought or tried this bar soap if it wasn’t included in bath set given to me by my sister-in-law. It came together with a body lotion, body cream and shower gel, all neatly packed in a translucent pouch. When I received the gift, it was already oozing with this captivating smell sending your senses to an extraordinary place. Yes, it was really that beautiful to me.
At first, I was skeptical to use it on my body. I’ve had a few experiences of developing rashes when a shower gel is too fragrant or too aromatic. But it was just too tempting so I had to try. Surprisingly, my skin didn’t object to the wonderful scent of this soap. Hooray! And I finished it to the last foam.
When I finished my first and only bar, I went to Crabtree & Evelyn to buy another one. It’s not sold individually but rather in a box of 3 bars of 85g each. At a price of RM65, it costs less than RM22 per bar. Not bad so I bought the box of 3.

I got curious about what triple milled meant, so I did some digging. For my (and my readers’) enlightenment, triple milled soap is a high-quality type of soap which is manufactured commercially with repeated machine-rolling process. This makes the soap completely uniform and smooth, without impurities, and lasts longer than ordinary soaps.
How I use my Crabtree & Evelyn Iris Triple Milled Soap:
Morning and evening
After washing my body with water, I use my normal shower gel with my bath sponge. Then I rinse off the shower gel completely. Then I lather Crabtree & Evelyn Iris Triple Milled Soap over my neck, body, arms and legs without a sponge. Leave it for a few minutes to make the scent stay longer. Rinse thouroughly.
Some people might say that double cleansing might make your skin dry but not for me. The Crabtree & Evelyn Soap leaves a moisturized feel on the skin even if I don’t regularly put lotion afterwards.
What the box says:
Blended with precious sandalwood, patchouli and vetiver, our Iris fragrance pays homage to the subtle, mysterious scent of orris, derived from the root of the iris. Formulated with botanical oils, this soap lathers sumptuously and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth.
Crabtree & Evelyn Iris Triple Milled Soap is available at their brand boutiques and selected departmental stores. Sells at RM65 for box of 3 bars at 85g per piece.

A Few of my Favorite Things

My Favorite Things by Maria – The Sound of Music

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens

Brown paper packages tied up with strings

These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels

Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles

Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings

These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes

Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes

Silver white winters that melt into springs

These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites

When the bee stings

When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things

And then I don’t feel so bad

I just celebrated my 33rd birthday a few weeks ago. At times, I still find it hard to believe how far I’ve gone from my life just almost 5 years before. And in celebration of a good and blessed life, I am enumerating the things in my life that I’m thankful for…plus a few of my favorite (material) things.

1) My husband

Wedding in Boracay

Don’t get me wrong, I truly believe that there’s no perfect marriage. It is no fairy tale where the princess marries the prince and they live happily ever after, the end. The truth is, marriage only starts after the wedding and this is where ‘work’ begins. There will be tough times, there will be tougher times. But after everything I’ve gone through, from letting go of everything I have back in my home country, to being in a foreign land with nothing but my clothes (and a few beauty products), no job, no friends…my husband has kept his promise that I will never be hungry.

My husband has been true and loyal after all these years, after all the pregnancy weight and post-pregnancy kilos I’ve never lost. There are times of disappointments but he’s been ever loving and supportive of my decisions. Some wives are tied down with their partners’ manipulation and control while I am blessed to make my own choices and be respected for it. When I arrived in Malaysia more than 4 years back, I had nothing. But now, I am pursuing my aspirations and having a wonderful life. My husband has been strong through it all, and has been my most loyal friend.

2) My son
The breadth and source of my very strength for the past 3 years and for the years to come. Motherhood completely changed my life, the way I look at things, my habits, my choices ad my personality. Before my son came into my life, I was a hot-tempered biatch at work and I can easily raise my voice, bang the table and scold people. Now, I’ve learned how to be patient and more. My priorities and choices revolve around him. I work even harder than before, making tougher decisions and more. But most of all, I aim to be the best person, achieve the highest I can and prepare the best possible future, all for him.

3) My In-Laws

It’s not easy to find couples who can confidently say that they are thankful for their in-laws. In my case, I am very blessed to have in-laws who are very concerned, understanding, supportive and loving. All through these years, they’ve been on my side, always lending a helping hand. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t know how my husband and I could have gone through all the tough times when we first arrived. And now, they are the ones taking care of my son while I work, which is totally priceless. I cannot imagine how our lives would be without my in-laws being there for Aden.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law have also been there for us. I still recall my pregnancy days and they helped us with things like baby items, food and other things that we might need. Whether small or big stuff, they’ve been generous and always thoughtful. In this time and life, I know that it’s not everyday for anyone to get blessed with a family like this.

4) My parents, sisters and brother, and my relatives back home

Life is never easy but we need to find ways to be happy, find simple joys in everyday life. At a young age, I’ve known what it’s like to have a not-so-easy life, and so I learned to work hard, make better decisions to reach my goals. There were a lot of hard times but these hard times made me a tougher person. I learn how to appreciate good times and other blessings even more because I knew what it’s like to be on the other side.

5) True friends

Good laughs, tears, sweat, tough professors, mean bosses, crushes, shopping…some things are just best shared and appreciated with true friends. Although some of us are very far apart, we still manage to share some laughs, heartaches and all.

6) Tough Bosses who make you learn important things

I’ve been so blessed to have bosses who manage to bring out the best in me, whether intentionally done or not. I know that we all looooove to complain about our bosses but truth is, they make us tougher and do better than our normal, easy-going selves. People tend to find a comfort zone and without those tough (and sometimes heartless) people in our lives, we wouldn’t be challenged and life will just be boring.

7) Photographers, Graphic Designers

Working with professional photographers and very creative graphic designers had been, and still is, a great joy in my career. I actually graduated as an interior designer (huwhat?) so creatives, colors and stuff grab my interest. But there’s something about photography and combining graphic design elements into an artwork that really gives me a sense of fulfillment.

And here are some of my favorite material stuff…not to be mistaken as of equal importance as the above but, nevertheless, these stuff still give a smile on my face:

8) iPhone 5

This is just the best mobile gadget for me. I love the camera, love the speed, love the interface and all. For the past years, I’ve tried different brands, different types…but this, by far, outruns them all. Not everyone will agree but as a personal choice, iPhone 5 works best for me.

9) MacBook Pro

I guess I just have the ‘need for speed’. I hate working on computers that hang on minor applications, especially when you’re shifting from 1 design program to another. I’m not a full-time designer but I occasionally enjoy photo editing and some small artworks every now and then. The Mac’s interface is just superb with its multi-touch trackpad. Swipe and shift programs easily with your fingers. Quick. Easy. Genius.
A few years back when I started working for an international lingerie brand and I saw a Mac for the first time, I was awestruck. Well, I thought, will I ever be able to afford that? Will I even understand how to use one? And, thank God, I was. It was worth every RM.

10) Kate Spade Red Tote Bag

I’m not really the type who splurges on designer bags, not that I can even afford to. But I saw this bag and it called my name (!). The leather is wonderful, the color is delicious and the design is simple yet classy. At first, I thought that red will be very hard to match with clothes but it just works fine with any color. With the mix-and-match trend in fashion now, sporting a red bag with an attire can make a statement.

11) Clairol Herbal Essences Coconut Milk

Yes, yes, like most of the other ladies out there, I am hoping that one shampoo or conditioner can solve all my hair problems. Though it doesn’t magically turn my hair into that soft-flowing, captivating bundle of strands like in TV commercials, this Clairol Herbal Essence Coconut Milk keeps my hair more moisturized than other conditioners that I’ve tried. The lasting scent is a definite plus and it’s very affordable if not cheap for most. The shampoo is just as nice because it doesn’t dry my hair out like others. I even explored  more expensive brands, salon brands, professional brands but I still go back to Herbal Essences.

12) Canon EOS100D

I finally got my hands on my very first DSLR! I’ve actually been dreaming of owning one for several years. It’s not cheap and for the past few years, I wasn’t confident enough to invest on one because I rarely have time to just take pictures as I’m so busy with work. It wouldn’t be worth it to buy one and just keep it, right? But the time has come for me to pursue my other passion in life while still maintaining my career in marketing. Thank God for all the blessings. I now have some good regular time for my son and myself.

The Canon EOS 100D was just recently released and in good timing for my decision to buy a DSLR. It is the lightest and smallest DSLR ever launched (for now) and it fits comfortably on a beginner’s hand. And it’s just amazingly light. I’ve been taking photos since I bought it, of course, excitedly, and the results are just so different and a lot better than my normal point-and-shoot digital camera. I can now take photos of Aden even if he moves a lot and take photos for my blogs more beautifully.

13) Perricone MD Intensive Pore Minimizer

I had a post about this great product at http://bit.ly/19BZkY6 This pore minimizer gave me visible results and the longer I use it, the more my skin becomes smoother, the smaller my pores become. I just love how my skin’s texture has improved within the past months. I’ll be finishing it soon so gotta buy another one!

14) Biore Pore Strips

Being obsessed with my huge pores, I constantly explore products to reduce their size or at least, keep it free from blackheads and whiteheads. But this is just almost impossible for me so I’ve been regularly cleaning my pores with pore strips. I do this every Saturday and I’m quite addicted to seeing those tiny, icky stuff all stuck to the strip! I’ve tried different brands at different prices. But Biore pore strips at only RM10.80 for 10 strips have been the most effective. Other strips don’t have cuttings on some corners that should adapt to the curves of our nose and cheeks which make it a bit inefficient. Biore has cutting on several corners, making it follow the contour of the nose, especially the fold between the nose and cheeks.

15) Crabtree & Evelyn Iris Triple Milled Soap

Normally, I don’t really use bar soaps but when my sister-in-law gave me an Iris bath set, the scent of the triple milled soap was simply bewitching! So I got another set from Crabtree; there’s no 1-piece for sale so I had to get the 3-piece set… But it’s reasonable at only RM65 per set.

16) Guerlain Idylle Duet EDP – Rose Patchouli

This is my special occasion fragrance. The floral scent is very classy and smells even lovelier as time wears on. When it comes to fragrance, I go for floral scents, not fruity and not the sporty scent. (Surprisingly, when it comes to skincare products, I have to avoid those with rose and other very floral scents as I tend to get some skin reaction to it.)
I love the sexy bottle, showing very feminine and glamorous curves. I prefer bottles that are transparent where you can see the contents so this makes Guerlain Idylle’s bottle even more attractive to me. Small thing but I don’t like those opaque bottles wherein I need to guess if it’s about to finish or not. And after all, one of the factors that makes a perfume attractive is the packaging. Save, of course, for Chanel No. 5 which has a simple bottle but still remains to be one of the most (if not THE most) popular fragrances in the world.

17) The Body Shop – White Musk EDT & Moroccan Rose EDT

On normal days, I like to wear these Body Shop EDTs. The famous White Musk has a light, wonderful and simply soothing scent. It has combined notes of jasmine, rose, musk, lily and I guess some other more beautiful floral scents (I am no fragrance expert, haha). At a price of RM59 for 30ml, this EDT is worth to have as a daily part of my body care routine.

I also love the Body Shop’s Moroccan Rose. By now you can tell that I’m quite addicted to rose fragrance (!). This EDT has a romantic, feminine, light and fresh scent. And being named Moroccan, it adds some mystery and uniqueness to it. Very nice for daily wear and special occasions, too.

18) Dorothy Perkins Black Belt

For some time, I’ve been looking for a simple but nice black belt. If not expensive, designer type, I can only see very posh and accessorized belt which I don’t really go for. I needed something simple, good enough for corporate wear so it cannot be too stylized with all those shining stones all over it. One fine evening in Mid Valley, I came across this simple, nice belt from Dorothy Perkins and I loved it! If I remember it right, I got this belt for only RM39. Very reasonable price for a belt like this.

19) Monthly Issue of Female & Women’s Weekly Magazines

Every month, I must always have a copy of these 2 magazines. I love the beauty and fashion articles, photos and updates. Presentation is very good, writing style is funky and smart. Female always contains the latest in beauty and fashion while Women’s Weekly has very interesting reads about family and life.

20) Solvil El Titus Purple Watch

I just got this watch last February as a Valentine’s Day present from my hubby. I really love the purple color, the lovely glimmer of stones and the size against my wrist. I like that it has that chronograph style but the extra 3 sets of counters for date, seconds and 24-hour are not too big as the usual chronograph-style watches.

And lastly, my days will not be complete without a few minutes session with my son’s baby feet! I know I’m only left with a short time to enjoy these before they turn into non-baby feet and before he gets old enough not to allow me to play with them…

I have more blessings to be thankful for and a few more favorite things. Sometimes, people, including me, tend to focus on the bad things that happen or those things that cause disappointments. But in life, I should learn how to count my blessings instead, those small things that make me smile or make my life wonderful, even for just a few minutes or seconds in a day. Hope you find your favorite things as well, no matter how big or small they are.
